Top five tips for a new year, new you

Getting started on your plans and resolutions for 2015? Your Library is a great place to begin! We have all the things you need to make 2015 your best year ever, no matter what your goals.
  1. Organize and eliminate clutter. Check out one of these titles to get tips from the pros.
  2. Tackle your wellness goals. You will find a wealth of instantly available motivation on the Digital Downloads page of our website. From yoga and aerobics videos to meditation music and eAudiobooks, you can get started in just a few clicks. Check out Hoopla, which lets you instantly borrow content that can be seamlessly streamed or downloaded.
  3. Take your career to the next level. Start by putting one of our FREE career workshops on your calendar.
  4. Get on financial track. No matter your age or income, there is no time like the present to start thinking about how you save and spend your money. We have upcoming classes to get you started. The best thing? They don't cost a penny!
  5. Make plans for college. Want to go to college, but not sure how? College 101 is an annual series of FREE workshops designed to provide teens and parents with all the needed information. We cover topics that take you from start to finish in the college process. Check out the schedule of upcoming College 101 workshops.
Make use of your eReader or mobile device


 

Many people already know that Charlotte Mecklenburg Library offers a large collection of FREE digital downloads for eReaders and mobile devices, including eBooks, audiobooks, eMagazines, music and movies. But what you might not know is that the Library also offers help learning how to use and download eBooks from our online collection onto your device. You can sign up for one-on-one training, attend a class or pop in during one of the scheduled drop-in sessions.

Here is a run-down of our most popular digital services and what they offer - all available for FREE with your Library card:

  • Overdrive offers eBooks, audio eBooks, music and eFlicks. There is also an Overdrive eReading Room: Kids Collection and an Overdrive eReading Room: Teen Collection
  • If you have a smart phone or tablet, you might want to install the CMLibrary mobile app; it makes downloading directly to your device quick and easy.
  • Freading offers no waiting! This service allows for multi-user downloads so they are always available; you never have to wait for a title. Cardholders receive five tokens each week to check out eBooks, which are one to four tokens each.
  • Hoopla lets you instantly borrow movies and TV series, audiobooks and music album content that can be streamed or downloaded. The interfaces are intuitive and easy to use.
  • Freegal Music is a downloadable music service offering access to Sony Music's catalog of legendary artists. Cardholders can download three songs a week from 10,000 labels. Cardholders can keep the songs in their music libraries.
  • Zinio is a digital magazine service with hundreds of magazines to view online on your PC, tablets and smart phones.
