HIGHLIGHTS

One book. One week. One community.

Community reading event during National Library Week

April 13 - 19, 2014

When we read, we learn new things. And when we read together, we learn things not just about the book, but also about the people with whom we are reading.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury has been chosen for this year's One Book community read. Read the book, and then join us at a public library in April for programs that bring the book's themes to life and bring our community closer together. Pick up a copy at your local branch today.

Visit cmlibrary.org/onebook for events and more information.

World Book Night is an annual celebration of books and reading, dedicated to spreading the love of reading. Annually, on April 23 (Shakespeare's birthday) thousands of passionate volunteers across America give a total of half a million free World Book Night paperbacks to those within their communities who don't regularly read. Each year, 35 popular books are chosen. The authors of these books waive their royalties and the publishers produce specially-printed World Book Night, U.S. editions. Charlotte Mecklenburg Library will be a pick-up location for book givers on April 16. Givers were selected in January and will hand out 20 copies of a favorite title in the community on April 23.
