More than 600 events in August!
Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is a place of possibility, where people of all ages can dream, learn and grow. This year, we will be offering more than 18,000 free story times, classes and learning activities. Here are some highlights for August. We look forward to seeing you here!

Don't forget to sign up for the Friends Rock & Read 5K Saturday, September 14 at Plaza Midwood Branch Library

This year's Rock & Read 5K Run/Walk will kick off and finish at a new location -- the Plaza Midwood branch! The event includes music at every mile of the race, a 1-mile Fun Run, and a Kids' Dash and Kids' Zone featuring Chubby of the Charlotte Checkers. Participants and spectators will enjoy a festival atmosphere at the finish line including live music, food and drinks. Proceeds benefit the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.
Entry fees are as follows: Now through Sept. 13 the 5K Race is $25, the Kids' Dash is $5 and the 1-mile Fun Run is $20. Prices increase the day of the race (Sept. 14). There is also a Pre-Race Happy Hour on Aug. 28, free with pre-registration. More at www.cmlibraryfriends.org.

Summer Reading deadline extended to Saturday.
There's still time to record your summer reading minutes!

Can you believe it's already August? We'd like to thank you for reading with us this summer, and remind you to record your reading minutes online. We've extended the end of Summer Reading by one day, so you now have until August 10 to record your reading time. Then, stop by any library location to pick up your prizes by 5pm on Friday, August 17. Don't wait because prizes are only available while supplies last. (Grand prize drawing winners will be contacted August 12.) Visit the Summer Reading page for details or to record your time.

Did you know the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library offers Teacher Loan Cards by request to teachers in Mecklenburg County? Teacher Loan Cards enable educators to borrow items for extended periods for classroom use. Learn how to apply.
For those who already have Teacher Loan Cards, be aware that it needs to be renewed in person each year. If you obtained yours prior to June 2013, it will expire on August 15, 2013. Just visit any library branch after August 15 and present one of the documents listed on this page to renew your card for the coming school year.

Our Classic Catalog, online fine payment and telephone renewal will be unavailable during a scheduled hardware upgrade on Sunday, August 18, from approximately 4pm to 8pm. The Enhanced Catalog will have limited functionality during this time. Thank you for your patience as we make the necessary updates to better serve our customers.

We're collecting school supplies for Classroom Central.
|
Classroom Central equips students living in poverty to effectively learn by collecting and distributing free school supplies. Functioning as a Free Store for teachers, Classroom Central serves as an invaluable resource for area students and classrooms.
Now through August 15th, 13 Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches are serving as public drop-off locations for the annual Classroom Central, Communities In Schools, and WSOC-TV School Tools Campaign.
Participating libraries are: Beatties Ford Road Regional, Cornelius, Independence Regional, Mint Hill, Morrison Regional, Mountain Island, North County Regional, South County Regional, Steele Creek, University City Regional, West Boulevard.
What do I donate?
The biggest needs are pens, pencils, filler paper, one subject composition books, erasers, rulers, pencil sharpeners, pocket folders, glue sticks, markers, crayons, highlighters and colored pencils.
