Message from the Executive Director, Nancy Gagnier

Volunteer!
When Alex de Tocqueville noted that we are a "nation of joiners" he recognized in Americans their special quality of volunteerism and their belief that the grassroots actions of ordinary people can produce positive change. Volunteering is an American tradition that has made immeasurable contributions to communities and organizations throughout the country. Why is volunteerism important to integration? "Participation in school, civic, governmental and business organizations by people of all races and persuasions is a necessary condition for a truly inclusive, racially integrated community. Our quality of life is improved by the innovative solutions shared responsibility, expanded talent pool, and increased sense of a united community that results from full engagement of all groups." That's a quote from our redesigned Volunteer Handbook. As we honor Dr. King this month, we invite you to learn about your community's volunteer opportunities and give some time to a cause that moves you!

We Welcome New Chair of the Board - Fred Profeta
We thanked outgoing chair Anthony Greene for his year of leadership at our annual holiday party. Anthony led the board in a series of goal-setting discussions in 2012 that will help us focus in 2013. We welcome long-time trustee and founding member Fred Profeta as the new Chair of the Board. Fred looks forward to reviving the 'fundamental issues' discussions of past board meetings to help drive intentional integration in the future. |
