Message from the Executive Director, Nancy Gagnier
The end of the year is always an exciting time at the Coalition: we celebrate Coalition Month throughout October, host our annual dinner, the Two Towns Sing-ins and the Pre-school Open House. On October 27th we had the special privilege of being given the Regional Equity Achievement Award by Plansmart NJ, which lauded the Coalition for being "a robust example of how mixed-income, racially diverse communities can thrive, demonstrating regional equity at the community level." Each November we send out our Annual Appeal to raise funds for upcoming programming. And we are working on exciting, new programs for 2011! Look for your letter in the mail or go right to our website to donate now.
Two new Integration Through the Arts programs are coming up in 2011-the first is a theater event for families that combines Dr. Suess stories and opera to present the value of racial inclusiveness and the second is a set of photography workshops that focus on capturing the photographer's experience of integration in our towns, ending in a community-wide photography show. Look for details on all 2011 winter and early spring programs on our website in January.

"Celebrating Integration" Annual Dinner a Success
The Coalition kicked off Coalition Month with Celebrating Integration; Creating Communities of Choice , our annual benefit that brings together residents and civic leaders for an evening of music, dinner, dancing and conversation in support of the Coalition's vision of an integrated community. Attendees enjoyed wonderful food and drinks while listening to the beautiful tone and sound of trumpet man Bruno Lee, guest soloist and Coalition Trustee. This year our Special Guest Speaker was NJ Attorney General Paula Dow. Click here to see a list of all our supporters who helped make this event a success.

Volunteer, Become a Trustee Board Member, and/or Tell Us About Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We have all types of volunteer opportunities, from single, short projects, to occasional office help, to regular committee participation. Are you a professional or talented amateur graphics designer? Do you like to plan events or work on fundraisers? carry a camera around town? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, we want you.
We are also looking for new people to join our established and experienced board. We continue to be a vital voice in intentional integration and we are looking for new Trustees to share in our on-going quest to build a racially integrated community.
Did you personally meet or march with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Do you know anyone in South Orange/Maplewood who did? We would love to hear your/their personal story as part of our 2011 Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
