HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Make Tracks!

There are a couple of shelves of Christmas fabric that are 50% off until January 5th - and we still have a few things left from our sample sale that we will leave up until January 5th.

Wanted to drop a quick hello to post our holiday hours for New Year's and to update the class offerings in 2015. There still a few more to be posted in the Winter Class schedule -  a hexie technique class and a
few more that have escaped the notes on my desk for the moment.

While we have all enjoyed the slower pace that happens at the shop in December, I for one, am ready to put away the holiday decorations, finish the last cookie crumbs and get out my sewing machine!

We have finished our inventory chores at the shop and are making way for new fabrics and are working out the logistics of getting the new class samples all hung in the shop and making Christmas disappear - but for a few more days-we still have some holiday fabrics and they are one sale at the moment  and last I checked there were still a couple of calendars on sale also.
Happy New Year to everyone from all of us at Quilted Strait.

Piecefully,
Kris

Sneek Peak at Ruby Short McKim Block of the Month

I am so excited to join Kansas City Star and McKim Studios to bring you a block of the month pattern series based on Ruby Short McKim's Flower Basket Quilt.

Ruby McKim's work might be familiar to some of you - she might be best known for her book One Hundred and One Patchwork Patterns published in 1931 The complete book text and downloadable PDF patterns are now available online at no charge. Not unlike many of today's quilt artists, she was also a good business woman and was able to successfully market her skills and her original patterns appeared in the Kansas City Star newspaper as well as several other publications and she maintained a thriving mail order business as well.
In 1931, Grammy published One Hundred and One Patchwork Patterns. These patterns were a compilation of old time quilt patterns redrawn or reworked by Grammy. The informative text was written by Grammy and possibly Granddaddy. Many people still consider this book to be their 'Quilt Bible'. Reprints of the book have been revised and omit a lot of the original content. Our website includes everything from the original 1931 printing, all 101 patterns are free to download, and the valuable text can easily be printed. If interested go to http://www.101patchworkpatterns.com. - See more at: http://www.mckimstudios.com/02bio/bio.shtml#sthash.MR8TvHkx.dpuf

Ruby's Flower Basket Quilt patterns have been remastered by Merrily McKim Tuohey, youngest granddaughter of Ruby Short McKim and owner of McKim Studios. Kim Conner of Maple Grove, Minn. has updated the instructions for today's quilters, and the Flower Basket Block of the Month patterns will offer instructions for embroidered flowers with a pieced basket base in addition to Ruby's original instructions for appliqué. The use of crayons to color the embroidered blocks will offer an additional option.

We will have more details soon and will begin taking sign-ups toward the end of January!
