A Sampler in the quilting world is a chance to learn and practice an array of skills and techniques while making an creative and unique finished product.
Celeste Alexander's sampler quilt is an original design, carefully crafted to provide exposure to a wide variety of construction methods. Some of the techniques include rotary cutting, hand piecing, appliqué, English paper piecing, strip piecing, foundation piecing, applique, mastering that elusive 1/4" seam, machine piecing, and working with templates.
Along the way you will get practical experience in color theory and design and you will also have the fun of working in a group.
At the end of the class, you may have favorite blocks and techniques and you may have some that you don't care to repeat, but you will have the skills to follow any quilt pattern or the tools to begin to shape your own original work.

We have the best jobs! Every day at least one person brings in bits and pieces of a project or a whole quilt top that inspires us and makes us think about color and design all over again! We are always especially happy on class days - when we know we are going to be treated to the magic of fabric and thread. And boy do we have some great classes coming up. In addition to our amazing group of local teachers, we have persuaded some folks to travel our direction to teach. Pamela Hastings has retired from her other job and now has time for her real passion - so has time to do a little more teaching in Port Gamble. We are also pleased to welcome back Peggy Gelbrich, who manages to come this way even though she lives in Oregon these days. Linda Tellesbo will give you the opportunity to create a show stopping Glacier Star quilt - one step, one month at a time - really this quilt looks amazingly difficult, but all you need are rotary cutting skills and Linda's great directions - and Melody Crust will be coming in April to teach a day of Fast and Furious Finishes Classes.
We have moved our annual spring sale to a week earlier this year - so don't forget to put the March dates on your calendar, details are below.
Already time to start gathering quilts for the Fiber & Fabric 2014 - links for show information and for submitting quilts are below also!

Beginning Cotton Theory
Button Back Runner Instructor: Maureen Harrah
Prerequisite: Rotary Cutting Experience March 16th, 10 am to 4:30 pm Class Fee includes fabric kit, pattern and seam guide.
Cotton Theory quilting is a new and different way to construct your quilt. It's backward! Unlike traditional quilts, which are pieced together, layered with batting and then quilted, Cotton Theory projects are quilted first, one segment at a time, and then assembled using Betty Cotton's fold-and-finish procedure. The result is a reversible quilt that combines sewing, quilting, and, if you choose, embroidery. You end up with two quilts -one on each side - ....more
