Spiral Walkabout Class

Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013

The pattern for these amazing quilts is published in the book Australian Spirit. The original technique uses a wedge ruler, but Leslie Dickinson has perfected a technique using a freezer paper wedge that is easier to do and allows for two spirals at once. The technique also allows the quiltmaker to make multiple wedges and then press them in place for quick cutting. The quilts in the book are made using Australian fabric from M&S Textiles which are amazing - you could also use batiks or perhaps your Kaffe Fassett stash.

Leslie's technique for creating spirals is a great jumping off point to make a quilt similar to those featured in the book, or to use as the basis for a quilt of your own design. Class is suitable for confident beginner to expert quilters.

October 2, 2013

Our passports are ready, our fat quarters are cut - Rhonda has designeda great giveaway pattern so, we are ready for the Fall Stash Dash.  I am glad to notice that our requests of the weatherman have been answered and we should have some nice days.

Port Gamble is looking beautiful these days with the maple leaves just beginning to turn - you will want to linger after you have visited the quilt shop and have lunch at the General Store, maybe afternoon tea at the Tearoom or perhaps BBQ dinner at Mikes.

Be sure to visit the newest shop in Port Gamble - No.7 Books - featuring new and used books. (I hear that they just got in a whole big box of used quilt books).

See you soon!

piecefully
Kris

No matter what your phone or pad system - you can get a KALEIDOSCOPE APP for the camera. And if you have a kaleidoscope app - you have the equivalent of that little set of angled mirrors you used to carry around.

The more sophisticated programs allow you to  "cut a wedge" out of the fabric and turn it into a spiral.

A handy tool, especially if you are going to take Leslie Dickinson's Spiral Walkabout Class

These are only on sale in our online shop - but don't forget you can order online and pick up your order at the shop to save the shipping costs - just choose "PICK UP AT THE SHOP" as your shipping option when you check out.
