Allison Harris
I am so excited to be featuring this talented quilter and pattern designer in the shop this summer. We have several of her quilts from her most popular patterns in the shop and we have the quilts from her new book as well. Allison has quickly made a name for herself in the online quilting world with her blog which features her creative patterns. Her look is clean and fresh and her patterns, which feature tradition blocks with a modern twist, are well written and approachable for beginners and experienced quilters alike. Allison's first book, Growing Up Modern has just been released from C&T Publishing and her first line of fabric from Windham Fabrics is due at the end of the summer.

We are so fortunate here in Port Gamble that summer means quilters from all over the United States and beyond come by to see us at the shop. It is so much fun to hear what is happening in the quilt world in other places.
Be sure to take a look at the information below about the FREE SHIPPING offer happening on the website right now and the fall class schedule is on the website now - the September classes are listed below.
I am especially excited about the Featherweight maintenance class we are offering in September - this is a great opportunity for everyone who has a Singer Featherweight or Singer 301 sewing machine.

Duck Duck Go
is not exactly a quilting or sewing app, but I find my self using it every day on my computer to look up the things I am interested in.
Duck Duck Go is a search engine with a refreshing minimum of advertising and one that does not track where you have been. This anonymous search is not only important for your privacy, but it means that when you search for something - you get everything - not just the sites that Google or Bing think you need to see based on your previous searches. Wonderful! Give it a try, it will open up a whole new world of websites for you.
|
These are only on sale in our online shop - but don't forget you can order online and pick up your order at the shop to save the shipping costs - just choose "PICK UP AT THE SHOP" as your shipping option when you check out.

The Conversation about "Modern" Quilts and Quilting.
|
Yo-Yo's - The Ultimate Summer Beach ProjectYo-yo quilts,Suffolk Puff Quilts, as they are known in England have a simple charm all their own. These quilts are technically coverlets, no batting,no backing - however almost every quilter at some point in time has made a few yo-yo's at least for embellishment if not for an entire quilt. Take a look at a couple of assortments of yo-you options on Pinterest here or here and here is a little information on a truly herculean yo-yo endeavor - a Yo-Yo Grandmother's Flower Garden. You would think that there would be just so many ways you can make a yo-yo. Here is Tutorial using clover tool and of course there are several you tube videos. I like the one below because of the idea of placing a piece of fabric in the center of the yo-yo. | | How to make a quilting yo-yo |
Still your basic yo-yos - but this Mini Yo-Yo Coverlet from Purl Soho incorporates a clever use of contrasting pearl cotton to stitch yo-yo's together. Then, there are the yo-yos in the works of Seattle Artist Helen Remick. Look at this amazing piece or at this one featuring square and triangular yo-yos. You can see more of her work at her online gallery. And because these kind of yo-yos perhaps inspired the fabric kind.
