The Conversation about "Modern" Quilts and Quilting.

Are You a Modern Quilter? and who says so?
Aren't we all excited that quilting is a vibrant - changing and ever evolving craft and art form! (Let's just set aside for the moment the discussion of quilting as craft or art). As typical human beings we are more comfortable if we can label and quantify what we do and where we belong in the world - our quilting world as well - and so....do I make modern quilts or not? Here are links to a few thoughtful conversations in the blogosphere about the topic. Join the discussion - keep the art alive!
From the Dining Room Empire Blog about the 2010 Quilt Canada Exhibit
Here is a body of work from the Flicker group of Fresh Modern Quilts - and the Modern Quilting Stitches Group. These are quilters who have labeled their own work as a "Modern Quilt". Take a look and see what you think!
Modern Quilt Guild's defining statement.
Video of Lecture by .... Rossie, owner of Fresh Modern Quilts.
| | Modern Quilting, Mutant Quilting |
Rossie's thoughts on Modern Quilting and subsequent ecture inspired a group of quilters who share their quilts on their blogs to sign on to a new way of showing their work.Called the process pledge these quilters have committed to document their creation process - from inspiration - to raw materials - to assembly - to finished project. For more about the process pledge and list of quilter links - check here.
