For those who don't know, I confess, I am a book geek. I have a huge quilting library and usually have several books on loan at any given point in time. I write down who I loan them to on a piece of paper and promptly lose the paper. This is all complicated by the fact that my library is split between home and the shop and I can never remember which book is where. I was thrilled to find the little iphone book app (see article for details) that allows me to store the info on my phone so I always have it handy. I am sure the cataloging process will go slowly as I browse through some of the books that I haven't opened in a while.....I am already thinking about those Baltimore Album books and what about those old Kumiko Sudo titles....
By the way, if you live in our neighborhood, be sure to take a look at the class schedule - we have scheduled second sessions for a couple of classes that filled the first time around and are continuing to add to the March and April schedules.
We have an abundance of new fabrics in the shop and online - and the sale bins in both places are full. Take a look!

We are going to need another pair of hands!
We have an opening for someone who is interested in working in our nationally recognized quilt shop alongside some wonderful folks (if I do say so myself)
It would be really wonderful to find a person who has good computer skills and quilting and needle work expertise, however, the most important qualification for the job is a dedication to customer service and an interest in working with people with a passion for needle and fabric.
Attitude comes first.
This will be a part-time position - for more information you can email Kris or call the shop - I am usually there Wednesdays through Sundays.

I am on a little Dresden plate binge at the moment - or perhaps little is not quite the right word since the center of my current project is a 32" plate.
I thought I might share a little bit of my research and inspiration with you.
Did you know that a Dresden plate quilt is the oldest surviving medallion American made pieced medallion pieced quilt? And while this block was certainly popular in the 1920's and 1930's there are many similar block patterns throughout history. And look at the many variations from the current wave of popularity - lots of inspiration online including a lovely set of pinterest images as well as a group of quilts at flicker. If you are teetering on the edge and about to fall into a Dresden plate quilt of your own...here are some great resources for you.
Here is an excellent tutorial with Elizabeth Hartman onthe SewMamaSew blog as well as a tutorial for a terrific strip pieced staggered Dresdan block. And here is a quick demo for the Trace and Create template I used to create the center medallion for the project I am working on.
