This is my favorite time of the year ....caught between the seasons. The crisp yellow, orange and red days of fall behind us - and the hustle and bustle that is the holiday season anticipated, but not yet upon us. It is the time to listen to the rain on the roof, sit by the fire and have the delicious choice of tackling the pile of unread books from the library or getting out the just started wool applique project.
Here at the shop it is a time to catch up on the various schemes and projects we have left uncompleted from a busy summer and fall as well as the time that the work schedule is arranged so that we can all take a little more time for our favorite quilting projects.
We have been responsible holiday elves however, and our building is making a fair contribution to the thousands of Christmas light bulbs that decorate our little town of Port Gamble each year. (Drive through some evening if you are in the neighborhood).
The winter class schedule is ready and we have also created a little gift shop for you on our website, with a holiday discounts and gift wrapping included! Pull up a stool and a cup of tea and do a little shopping to help out your own favorite elf or for a quilting friend or two. You can make a wish list and email it to your family or friends or you can do your own shopping and even have your favorite Santa pick up your gifts, all wrapped and ready at the shop. We won't even tell if you take the opportunity to send yourself a few gifts.

Modern Quilt Guild Showcase
One of the best things about going to the Houston Quilt Market - is that the Quilt Festival Show is already hung, so I get to see the quilts. The show is virtually almost deserted and museum-like quiet during most of Market so whenever I get a chance I wander up and down the aisles of the show - taking in a much different kind of stimulation than the busy, exciting, selling chaos that is market. Here is one part of the show for you - The Modern Quilt Guild Showcase. Click on each photo in the Showcase to see more of the quilts in each group.

Beginning Cotton Theory Quilting Instructor: Mo Harrah Sunday, January 6, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm Cotton Theory quilting is a new and different way to construct your quilt. It's backward! Unlike traditional quilts, which are pieced together, layered with batting and then quilted, Cotton Theory projects are quilted first, one segment at a time, and then assembled using Betty Cotton's fold-and-finish procedure. During Cotton Theory assembly, you sew the raw edges of your quilted pieces together, leaving seam allowances that are folded on the outside of your quilt and then stitched in place using one or more Cotton Theory techniques. This adds an extra dimension to the surface. The result is a reversible quilt that ....more
