Queer Quotes
"In trans women's eyes, I see a wisdom that can only come from having to fight for your right to be recognized as female, a raw strength that only comes from unabashedly asserting your right to be feminine in an inhospitable world."
~Julia Serano, trans author & activist
"Gay kids aren't a 'plot point' that you can play with. Gay kids are real, actual kids, teenagers, growing up into
awesome adults, and they don't have the books they need to reflect that."
-Sarah Diemer, lesbian author

What are your interests/hobbies?
I mostly spend my time on Tumblr. I'm interested in One Direction and Harry Potter.

The Cantu's Director Deb has had to take a stress related health leave beginning Feb 6th. She will return to the center on Monday, March 23rd. Gender and Sexuality Specialist Tam Welch will be filling in for Deb and Interim Director will be AARCC director, Shont Thomas. The Cant's many capable interns will be keeping the center open during its usual operating hours. Rest assured that we have put in place solid transitional plans and that the Cant, its students, and programs are in very good hands. Thanks to all for your understanding and support as Deb focuses on returning to wellness.

Redefining Realness
by Janet Mock
Janet Mock's autobiography chronicles her experiences as a trans woman of color. She discusses growing up in Hawaii, resorting to sex work for survival, and her journey to becoming an outspoken activist for other trans women. This is a powerful book on the intersectionality of racism, sexism, and transmisogyny.
Check it out at the Cantu! QReview provided by our own Queer Book Club facilitator, Adrian Diaz.
