Queer Quote

"When I was in the military they gave me a medal for killing two men and a discharge for loving one."

 Michael Mangiaracina

Q1: Who are you?
A1. My name is Michael Mangiaracina, my pgps are He/Him/His and I am a second year Cowell affiliate. My major is Global Economics with a focus in German. This year I am the IVC (Internal Vice Chair) of the Queer Student Union and a member of Theta Pi Sigma.

Q2: What are your interests/ hobbies?
A2: In my free time,
I enjoy spending time with my significant other, Dillon, watching movies or TV shows. But outside of that, I am at the gym or volunteering my time with Triangle Speakers, the Queer Student Union and Theta Pi Sigma, the gender neutral Greek organization on campus. Above all, I am always listening to music, any kind from classical piano to rap music--anything I can dance to works for me.

Q3: What does the Cantu mean to you?
A3: If I had to sum up what the Cant means to me in one word, that word would probably be, acceptance. It is the physical manifestation of what most of us as humans and especially queer people look for in life. The Cant is a safe, happy and loving environment in which to grow, have fun and feel accepted. It does not matter if you are there for a meeting or there to bake cookies, everyone is glad you are comfortable enough to be you no matter what anyone has every told you about your identity or orientation. I am very thankful for the amount of time I get to spend at the Cant and everyone I meet there.

Gertrude and Alice
by Diana Souhami

This biography is of both Gertrude Stein and Alice Babette Tolkas, both members of the Parisian avante-garde of the early 20th Century.  They're described to be each other's confidantes, lovers, critics, and muses.  They were a couple from 1907 until Stein's death in 1946.
