Ask Sexi Sami is an anonymous weekly column for the UCSC community sponsored by the Cant Queer Center and Student Health Outreach & Promotion (SHOP). Sexi Sami will answer questions related to healthy queer sex and relationships. One question will be answered and published in QConnect every Monday.

Dearest Sexi Sami,

I've been having sex with my partner for a few weeks now and we've just started using a strap-on. Neither one of us has owned toys before so we are a little clueless about how to keep them clean. I'm not sure if we should be washing the toy between using it on each other or not. Can you clarify the do's and dont's of dildos? Signed, Strapped for Answers

Sexi Sami Sez,  I'm delighted that you've opened your toy chest and begun exploring the exciting world of strap-ons, dildos and vibrators! Sexi Sami gets incredibly slippery when toys are thrown into the mix and encourages anyone who is curious about sex toys to check out some shops downtown like Camouflage and Pure Pleasure, both of which provide a wide selection of toys to browse through. These shops are safe queer spaces for asking sex related questions, too, so don't hesitate to explore their shops! More here.

All things trans* at UCSC.

If a friend confides in you that they are trans*, listen to them closely while they are talking. Most likely, they have had to work up to this interaction and are under a lot of stress already, so don't cut them off while they are talking. Don't make the conversation about yourself or your experience as much as you think it may apply. When they are done, try to avoid echoing statements like, "It doesn't matter" or "I don't care." It may be well-intentioned, but the fact is that it does matter. You should care because things will be different. What should never change is your love and respect for them as an individual.

Jamie Epstein

Q1: Who are you and what do you do?
They call me Jamie Epstein, but I am also known as Wonder Pig. PGP They and She. I am a double major in Community Studies and Feminist Studies.

Q2: What are you up to?
You may see me around campus promoting sexual health for SHOP. I am also at the Cant every Thursday for the Love Beyond the Binary group that I host. My main
interest is to spread as much love as possible. If you see me frolicking around, don't hesitate to say hello!

Q3: What does the Cantu mean to you?
The Cantu is a place to escape as well as a center to connect. I love the Cantu because I can relax and take a break from the world or I can meet someone new and make a great friend. You never know what to expect!
