What Has The Cant
Done For You?

53%

The percentage of LGBT workers who remain in the closet at work. (HRC Foundation's new report, The Cost of the Closet)

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) would provide basic protections against workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.  ENDA simply affords to all Americans basic employment protection from discrimination based on irrational prejudice.  The bill is closely modeled on existing civil rights laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.  The bill explicitly prohibits preferential treatment and quotas and does not permit disparate impact suits.  ENDA was approved by the Senate on November 7, 2013, by a bipartisan vote of 64-32. It must now be approved by the House.

Borderlands - La Frontera: The New Mestiza
by Gloria Anzaldua

This collection of essays and poems challenge a common cultural conception of identity.  Anzaldua, Chicana, Lesbian, Writer, and Activist, discusses the intersectionality of identities that all people are faced with, showing that the psychological, social, and cultural backgrounds we all inhabit work together to round a person's identity as a whole.
