Qulture's Queer People of Color Media Research is being conducted by Jonathan Menendez through the UCSC Digital Arts New Media program as a part of an ongoing collective of makers and thinkers exploring new media in relation to an era of rapid economic, cultural and political globalization. This research work-group explores the articulation of emergent subjectivities, innovative approaches to diasporic community-building, techniques for social inclusion, and creative activity that responds to or engages with experiences of this particular context.
This interdisciplinary research group will focus on surveying and producing queer people of color media, working both independently and collaboratively on the
development, design, fundraising strategy and grant research to develop Qulture, a GPS based multi-platform application.Get involved and get credit!

What Has The Cant Done For You?
Vanessa Cintron

Who are you?
I am Vanessa Cintron, a second year legal studies and psychology double major and a Merrill affiliate. I love listening to music and eating lots of amazing food.

What has the Cant done for you?
The Cant has introduced me to amazing people, including three of my closest friends. It has been an incredible learning space, as well as a space that has helped me grow. I hope to help others grow by being a part of this community and help bring people in to the Cant, so they can potentially experience what I have.

Dec 4th ~ Mr. Transman 2013: 3rd Annual FTM Competition

Last week the Cantu hosted the queer staff and faculty mixer "Convivial & Queer"
at the Cowell Provost House. A most enjoyable time was had by all who attended! Special thanks to Faye Crosby for the generous welcome to her home, to Bill Ladusaw and Ken Christopher for contributions to the feast, and to Cant student staffers Lesley and Margarita for their hard work catering the event.
Gender & Sexuality Specialist Tam Welch and Cantu director Deb Abbott enjoying greeting all of our visitors, including special guest, campus provost Allison Galloway.

The Cant also took part in the very successful "Big Break", a collaborative craft party with all of the resource centers pitching in. Everyone had lots of food and play-options. Deb challenged Queer Geeks member Brett to a game of Scrabble and played a Scrabble (using all 7 letters) right as Big Break ended! Too much fun!
