Grace and Peace to you!  Read on to find out what's happening at Rejoice this weekend and what God is doing in and through our church community.
Scripture Text
For Sunday, February 9th

John 1: 1-8

 "The Word"

Jesus has many names in the Bible and Sunday's is perhaps the most profound and mystical.  In the first chapter of John's gospel Jesus is called "The Word."  This nickname ( "logos" in Greek) had a powerful impact on so many different groups back in the day.  This name has energy and significance for us now in many ways!  How will these images inspire our desire to be followers of the Word?

Second Sunday Social
This Sunday

Please join us for Second Sunday Social time after both services this Sunday!  This is an opportunity on the 2nd Sunday of each month to come together after worship for some refreshments, fellowship and time to connect with each other... hope to see YOU there!

Looking for Silent Auction/Raffle Items
To Raise Funds for High School Mission Trip

We are also looking for items for the Rejoice Revue Silent Auction!  We have had some awesome items in the past which have included Bears and Cubs tickets, weekend getaways, spa packages... If you own your own business, it is a great opportunity to highlight your products or services!

If you are able to donate to our Silent Auction, please contact Jake.  All proceeds from the Silent Auction sale will benefit our high schoolers who will travel to the Jersey Shore for Hurricane Sandy relief this June.

Oh, the Weather Outside is Frightful...
Weather Cancellation Policy

During the winter months when weather can be a bit questionable, our ministries will be depending on the National Weather Service as the driving force for our weather cancellation policy. We will be paying particular attention to the weather statements issued in Kane County. However, if there is a storm watch in effect for Kane County at 1pm and the radar shows a massive storm barreling toward Geneva expected to hit later that afternoon, that will be a factor for cancellation as well.

Cancellations of programs and events will happen if the National Weather Service issues:

-a travel advisory/ hazardous conditions
-a winter storm warning
-severe weather warning
-weather bulletins wherein travel is not recommended

Programs will proceed as scheduled if:

- there is a wind chill advisory (if programs are held indoors)
- there is a winter storm watch
- there is a severe weather watch
Children's Ministry
Preschool - 5th Grade

Registration Now Open for 1st Communion - First Communion classes are a special opportunity for all children ages 2nd grade or older, and their parents, to develop a deeper understanding for the importance of this Holy Sacrament. Children and their parents will appreciate the interactive sessions which allow them to have fun learning together. Classes meet immediately following the 10:30 worship service (at approximately 11:45) until 1:00pm for three sessions on March 9th, March 16th and April 13th. Snacks will be provided at all three sessions.

First Communicants will receive their 1st Communion at the Maundy Thursday service on Thursday, April 17th @ 7:00pm. Immediately following the service, 1st Communicants and their families are invited to celebrate at a special reception. Refreshments will be served.

To register, complete the sign-up sheet in the Narthex (available starting Sunday, February 2nd) or email Angel Slawinski with the following information:
  • Student' Full Name (as it will appear on the Communion certificate)
  • Parent(s) attending sessions with child
  • Cell Phone#
  • Email address of parent attending sessions

"ACTS OF LOVE" on February 18th - Our last visit to Greenfield's Residential Community in Mill Creek was such a blast, the kids asked to do it again!  So we are going back for another visit on Tuesday, February 18th to host "Acts of Love," a variety show to entertain our new friends at Greenfield's and show them God's love in action!

We need your help!  We are looking for children in grades 2nd-5th to show off their talents. Depending on how many participants sign-up, each child will have approximately 3-5 minutes for their act. Ideas for acts include: magic tricks, telling jokes, singing, dancing etc. If you are interested, contact Angel Slawinski and GET PRACTICING!

SUMMIT - High School Ministry
9th-12th Grade

Summit this week - Join us Thursday, February 6th from 7-8pm as we continue 'The Way.' As we continue our literal journey with Jesus, we will encounter him as he performs his very first miracle and engages in a conversation that gives us the world's most well-known verse in the entire bible. Remember to bring your bible as we follow "the way."

1st Mission Trip Fundraiser - Rejoice Revue on February 23!  If you're a missionary for theLOVEproject14 you will be expected to participate from 3:30pm-9:00pm.  An annual tradition at Rejoice Lutheran Church which is a "No-Talent Talent Show/ Silent Auction."  The total amount raised from Rejoice Review generally is evenly divided among the students who participate leading up to and during the event. We need you to do 3 crucially important things:

#1 Bring a HOMEMADE baked good to share. (Pie, homemade cookies, cake, some sort of a dessert) Consider it somewhat of a bake sale. Therefore, don't show up with a case of Jewel cookies. Need help with this? Click here.

#2 Show up and serve. There will be many aspects that make RR a success. You play important roles in making this happen - from helping move the stage, to serving food, to providing child care - please come ready to be asked to step up!

#3 We need AWESOME auction items. Use your connections, talk to your parents, family, friends, whoever, but we need outstanding items for auction! Please do not go spend a ton of money yourself on this stuff. But if your parents have a timeshare someplace, a lake house, a new TV that's just sitting around, PLEASE consider donating stuff like this for auction.
