Jazz at Sunset Returns
Enjoy a very special Independence Day Concert on Friday, July 4th as Dan Gabel and The Abletones perform authentic big band music of the 1930s and 40s at Jazz at Sunset, SAC Park, 438 Lake Street, Shrewsbury. Hosted by the newest addition to the WOO Card program, the American Big Band Preservation Society, put some pomp into your holiday with this authentic 18-piece Big Band that looks and sounds just like those that thrilled American audiences in the days of old! Jazz at Sunset Series continues every Friday at SAC Park through the end of July. Upcoming concerts include A Tribute to Cab Calloway with Christopher Calloway Brooks on July 11th; The BT-ALC Big Band on July 18th; and the New England Jazz All-Stars on July 25th.

Historic 4th Festivities
Celebrate our nation's birthday with day long festivities at Old Sturbridge Village, 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, on Friday, July 4th, 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. with FREE admission for those 17 and under with a paying adult. Take part in a citizen's parade, play 19th-century baseball, march with the militia and sign your 'John Hancock' on a giant copy of the Declaration of Independence. Enjoy fife and drum music throughout the day with an 11 a.m. naturalization ceremony to take place on the Common. Use your WOO Card to save $5 off adult daytime admission.

The museum will close at 5 p.m. then reopen at 6 p.m. for a separate evening program including food, music and entertainment, capped off by a spectacular 30 minute fireworks display over the village countryside. Children can take part in sack races and pie eating contests. Separate evening admission required.

Have a ball this 4th of July with the city's newest boys of summer - the Worcester Bravehearts! Enjoy a special afternoon game at Hanover Insurance Park, 1 College Street, Worcester, on Friday, July 4th at 3:05 p.m. The team will square off against the Seacoast Mavericks. Dynamic live entertainment is surrounded by a growing farmers market, featuring the best in local home grown produce from a bevy of area farmers. New this summer, check out Art + Market at the Worcester Art Museum opening Saturday, July 12th and running through September 13th, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Market will be held inside the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street (directly across from the museum), Worcester and is open to both museum visitors and the general public. Hot Night in the City
In conjunction with Park Spirit, the Worcester Center for Crafts, 25 Sagamore Road, Worcester will host its Hot Night in the City on Wednesday, July 9th 6:30-9:30 p.m. Enjoy an evening of live zydeco music featuring the Slippery Sneakers, demonstrations of the hot processes of glass blowing, wheel throwing, raku firing and more - as well as the opening of the exhibit, Through a Year Outside: Natural History Photography by Sheila Carroll in collaboration with MA Audubon Broad Meadow Brook Sanctuary. Movies on the Common
Nothing says summer like an outdoor movie! Worcester Film Works will present the second of its three planned summer movies on the common on Thursday, July 17th at the Worcester Common Oval, 455 Main Street, Worcester. Featured film is the 1985 cult classic, The Goonies - an entertaining tale of a band of pre-teens who live in the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon attempting to save their homes from demolition, and in doing so, discover an old Spanish map that leads them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate. Live music will precede the movie beginning at 6:30 p.m. along with several food trucks and a 21+ only beer garden. Movie at dusk. Admission to the movie is free. Twinkles at Twilight
Join Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, for an exciting evening in the garden hunting for twinkling fireflies on Wednesday, July 23rd 7:30-8:45 p.m. Program will start with a story to learn all about these amazing members of the insect world followed by making a glowing firefly to take home. Neighborhood Nature
Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy city parks. MA Audubon Broadmeadow Brook will once again be hosting several free nature programs throughout the summer. Join them for Neighborhood Nature at Elm Park on Wednesdays, 1-4 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. for drop in activities, crafts, stories and nature (no sessions week of July 4th) and at Green Hill Park for Neighborhood on the Water on Fridays, July 11th - August 22nd from 2-5 p.m. Learn about wildlife from canoes, swimming skills required, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Masterful Music
Quartet of Nations
This summer the Worcester Chamber Music Society will present A Quartet of Nations, four inspired programs which capture through the intimacy of chamber music, the living essence of a country's spiritual being as reflected through the lens of musical genius. Concert will be Tuesdays & Thursday through July 17th from 8-10 p.m. at Clark University's Razzo Hall, 92 Downing Street, Worcester. Explore France (July 8th), Germany (July 10th), Russia (July 15th) and the Americas (July 17th). Summer Sing
Enjoy an evening of singing with a friendly group this summer! The Master Singers of Worcester will host a summer sing on Tuesday, July 8th 7-9 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, 19 Church Road, Shrewsbury. Under the direction of Malcolm Halliday and accompanied by Brett Maguire participants will study Haydn's Missa brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo and Schubert's Mass in g and then sing through them with local soloists. Live Jazz
Start your weekends early - party on the patio! Language of a Dream
Language of a Dream, a multi-media art exhibition opens at the Sprinkler Factory Gallery, 38 Harlow Street, Worcester, on Saturday, July 5th. Exhibit feature works by Art Krauss a long time professor of art and media in New England who work is greatly influenced and inspired by his decade of travels to Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. Exhibit also features guest artists Willow Ross, Clark Britton and Anne Condon Giancola. Opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 12th 5 - 9 p.m. Evening will include Krazy Kat Jazz Jam with Michael Chasse and 2 Worlds/1 Heart dance performance. Our Fragile Home

Layered Lives
ArtsWorcester will host an opening reception on Thursday, July 10th at 6 p.m. to celebrate the opening of Layered Lives, an exhibition of photographs by Anne McNevin at The Hanover Theatre, 2 Southbridge Street, Worcester. Utilizing the technique of photomontage, McNevin reveals a personal exploration of history through layers of imagery, text and family photographs.
