Sweet Sounds for your Sweetie 

 

Treat your valentine to the sweet sounds of the Seven Hills Symphony Orchestra's Winter Concert on Friday, February 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the Lazare Research Building, UMass Medical Center, 364 Plantation Street, Worcester. Featuring an all romantic program, enjoy Sleeping Beauty Waltz by Tchaikovsky, Love Music from Boris Gudinov by Mussorgsky and the fourth movement from Dvorak's Symphony No. 8. Worcester's major mid-19th-century architect, Elbridge Boyden is known for his design of Mechanics Hall. But did you know that he was also responsible for many other important Worcester buildings - as well as landmark properties in other New England cities and towns? Preservation Worcester, 10 Cedar Street, Worcester, welcomes you to its Winter Talk Series, on Thursday, February 13th at 5:30 p.m. with Richard Gardner, exploring The Work of Elbridge Boyden - Worcester and Father Afield. Reservations suggested but not required. Admission is FREE and open to the public.
Free Family Concert 

 

A perennial favorite for children of all ages, Peter and the Wolf is a favorite introduction to classical music. The Worcester Chamber Music Society invites you to their Free Family Concert on Sunday, March 2nd at 3 p.m. at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester. The concert offers an opportunity for families with young children to experience the beauty and excitement of classical music together. Bring a new or gently used book to be donated to Reliant Medical Group Foundation's Reach Out and Read program and be entered into a drawing to win a family membership to the EcoTarium. Breaking Broadway Barriers

An Evening with Haydn 

 

Sylvia Berry, fortepianist and Dale Munschy, keyboard technician and restorer, will explore the story and legacy of changing tuning systems and keyboard instruments in the 17th and 18th centuries at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th at Clark University's Traina Center for the Arts, 92 Downing Street, Worcester. The lecture will be followed at 7:30 p.m. with a recital of Haydn's late keyboard works, performed on a Broadwood and Son fortepiano built in London in 180 and fully restored in 2011. Sweet Dreams 

 

Britain's most mischievous playwright weaves together brilliant storytelling and shattering macabre comedy - don't miss The Pillowman on stage at Worcester State University's Fuller Theatre, 486 Chandler Street, Worcester, Thursday, February 20th - Sunday, February 23rd, 8 p.m. Thursday - Saturday, 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. If you can walk, you can snowshoe - and Mass Audubon Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, 414 Massasoit Avenue, Worcester, will show you how! Enjoy Snowshoeing for Families on Saturday, February 22nd from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Learn how to use snowshoes before heading out on the trails to look for signs of wildlife and enjoy the beauty of the sanctuary in winter. Bring your own snowshoes or rent them for just $2. African Roots 

 

As part of its ongoing Sunday Sermon Series, the Worcester Art Museum, 55 Salisbury Street, Worcester, will host Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester faculty member Elizabeth Bronstein, cello and fiddle, and partner Sam Politz, accordion, for a performance in honor of Black History Month on Sunday, February 23rd at 1:30 p.m. Politz, a native of Louisiana, will speak about the African roots of two unique American musical styles - New Orleans Jazz and Louisiana Cajun music.
