Made famous by the rock band Orpheus, Congress Alley was Worcester's answer to San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district in the 1960s. Home to musicians, political radicals and artists, Congress Alley was a place where marijuana and music drifted in the air, conventions and conformity were forgotten and all you needed was love. The Worcester Historical Museum, 30 Elm Street, Worcester, will host a special lecture/discussion, There Really is a Place Called Congress Alley with Worcester muralist Susan Champeny on Thursday, January 30th from 7-8 p.m. Champeny and partners of the Crown Hill Historic District will discuss the history of Congress Alley in the 1960s and plans for the installation of a public mural, to be funded in part by a grant from the Worcester Arts Council, to honor the alley's history. Admission free with museum admission. WOO Card holders get 2-for-1 adult admission and can swipe for WOO points. Public WOO Card
