Six Senses
Six artists explore the five senses and their own sixth senses at a new exhibition aptly named Six Senses at the Sprinkler Factory Gallery, 3 Harlow Street, Worcester. The exhibit, featuring the works of Michael Hachey, Karen Nunley, Jacqueline Ross, Susan Swinand, Catherine Wilcox-Titus, and Peter Wise, will open to the public with a special reception on Saturday, May 4th from 6-9 p.m. Admission is FREE. On Thursday, May 23 at 7 p.m. two local poets, Heather Treseler and Karen Sharpe, will share poetry inspired by works in the show. Six Senses will run through May 31st. Looking for something a little different for that special mother in your life? The Worcester Center for Crafts invites you to try your hand at one of two Friday Night Fun workshops: Flameworked Flowers for Mom or Glass Flowers for Mom. Both workshops available on Friday, May 3rd at the center's New Street Glass Studio, 35B New Street Worcester. Siege the Day!
Higgins Armory Museum, 100 Barber Avenue, Worcester, invites you to Siege the Day! On Saturday, May 4th the museum will hosts its annual Trebuchet Contest. Trebuchets are a type of medieval siege machine used to destroy castle walls. Using the principles of gravity and levers, trebuchets were capable of hurling large stones a great distance. Put together your own team, build a four-foot trebuchet and come to prove your handiwork! Prizes will be awarded for accuracy and general coolness. On Saturday, May 4th, That's Entertainment, 244 Park Avenue, Worcester, will celebrate the 12th Annual Edition of Free Comic Book Day, offering attendees a number of special edition comic books at no cost and by hosting a group of comic book artists who will be drawing free sketches on request. Offerings this year include comic books featuring Batman, the Hulk, the Avengers, Pippi Longstocking, Tinker Bell, Dragon Ball, Judge Dredd, the Tick and many others suggested for various ages. Xtreme Treetop Adventure

On Saturday, May 11th, the museum, located at 222 Harrington Way, Worcester, will offer a special one-of-a-kind treetop extravaganza - an opportunity to experience both the Tree Canopy Walkway and a Tree Climbing Expedition. Sessions will begin at the Tree Canopy Walkway where participants will venture out 40-feet above the ground in a grove of oak and hickory tree, balancing on rope and plan bridges before ziplining to the forest floor. Part two of the expedition will include a hike to the EcoTarium's neighboring property which includes black oak savanna to climb one of the City's majestic old-growth trees using professional ropes and harnesses. Amy Brill's debut novel, The Movement of Stars, was researched at the American Antiquarian Society, 185 Salisbury Street, Worcester, and is inspired by the work of Maria Mitchell, the first professional female astronomer in America. Join Brill at AAS on Tuesday, May 14th at 7 p.m. for a fascinating talk about her novel which tells the story of Hannah Gardner Price, a young woman living on Nantucket in 1845 whose passion for astronomy and her relationship with a whaler from the Azores put her in direct conflict with the mores and conventions of the Nantucket Quaker community in which she was raised. Brill's articles, essays and short stories have appeared in numerous publications and she won a George Foster Peabody Award for writing MTV's The Social History of HIV. Join the Joy of Music Program in celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the JOMP Youth Orchestra at its 6th Annual Spring Gala on Wednesday, May 15th at 7 p.m. at Mechanics Hall, 321 Main Street, Worcester. In conjunction with its new Matryoshka: The Russian Nesting Doll exhibit, the Museum of Russian Icons, 203 Union Street, Clinton, will host All Dolled Up Family Day on Saturday, May 18th from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Enjoy free activities all day including cookie decorating, snacks, art activities, a reading corner, family-friendly gallery tours at 10 a.m., 12 noon and 1 p.m., along with storytelling on the hour throughout the day. Matryoshka features 83 sets of lavishly painted wooden nesting dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. Whether depicting ancient legends, religious themes or political caricatures, Matryoshkas can reveal a subtle narrative about the history of Russia. Exhibit will be on view through July 20th. Living Legacy

The temperatures are climbing so it's time for the sheep at Old Sturbridge Village, 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, to get their annual haircuts.
