9th Annual College Show at AW
ArtsWorcester, 660 Main Street, Worcester, invites you to join them in celebrating a juried exhibition featuring the best art coming out of Colleges of Worcester Consortium colleges and universities on Friday, February 8th from 6-8 p.m. Works will include painting, photography, sculpture, works on new paper and new media. This exhibition and the opening reception are FREE and open to the public. The College Art Show will be on exhibit through March 21st. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, and 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays. WOO Card holders can swipe for Double WOO points. |
Music of the Night
Join an evening of music showcasing the talents of Andrew Lloyd Webber performed by The Part Time Players accompanied by choristers from the All Saints Choirs and baritone Graeme McCullough on both Friday, February 8th and Saturday, February 9th at 8 p.m. at All Saints Church, 10 Irving Street, Worcester. Featured melodies to include works from Evita, Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar and more. Silent auction to benefit the All Saints Choirs Tour of Ireland 2013 will be held, with final bids to be accepted at the concerts. An online preview of auction items available. Two Dollar Tuesdays
Throughout the month of February, visit the Museum of Russian Icons, 203 Union Street, Clinton, on any Tuesday for just $2! Explore the collection and the current exhibition, Imaging the Invisible, showcasing 60 icons from the museum's collection depicting mystical, ethereal subjects and concepts. With a collection of more than 500 Russian icons and artifacts, the Museum of Russian Icons is the largest of its kind in North America, and one of the largest private collections outside Russia. Spanning six centuries, the compendium includes important historical paintings dating from the earliest periods of icon writing to the present. $2 Tuesday admission runs through February 26th. The museum is open Tuesday - Friday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., Thursdays until 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. WOO Card holders can swipe for WOO points. |
West Wynd blows in
The Worcester Public Library, 3 Salem Square, Worcester, invites you to join them for a real musical treat on Sunday, February 10th from 2:30-3:30 p.m. The West Wynd Clarinet Ensemble will perform a free concert. Founded in 2009, this group of accomplished women clarinetists enjoys sharing its wonderful clarinet ensemble literature. Led by clarinetist and music educator Nancy Helene Ackerman, the ensemble will perform a variety of musical styles for this combination of instruments. Admission is FREE and open to the public. |
Snoozy Snowflake
The forecast is for fun as Apple Tree Arts presents the musical Snoozy Snowflake on Saturday, February 9th at 7 p.m. at St. Philip Church, 12 West Street, Grafton. The musical shares the tale of Snoozy Snowflake's reluctance to join the other snowflakes in making snow, thus delaying the first snowfall of the year. Her teacher learns that the real reason Snoozy doesn't want to act like all of the other snowflakes is because she wants to be different. Heartwarming lesson on celebrating our differences. Admission $5 for adults, $3 for ages 5 and up, free for those under 4. Tickets available at the door.
On Sunday, February 10th at 4 p.m. enjoy a festive music celebration as Apple Tree Arts hosts its Faculty & Friends Concert at the Congregational Church of Grafton, 30 Grafton Common, Grafton. Broadway tunes, classical and gospel music will all be featured. Admission is $10 for adults and free for students and children under 18. Tickets will be sold at the door. |
Rat Pack is Back Style with substance, swing with swagger and a non-stop party that everyone wants access to. Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack Show rolls into The Hanover Theatre, 2 Southbridge Street, Worcester, with all that and more on Saturday, February 9th at 8 p.m. This critically acclaimed, hugely entertaining theatrical production includes exciting new arrangements of the classic songs everyone knows and loves. In addition hear original, never-before-heard songs written by the late, legendary songwriter Rob Miller and recorded voiceovers made exclusively for this show by Hackett's father, the late, legendary comedian, Buddy Hackett. While in Rome Jill Slosburg-Ackerman's drawing project, In Rome, began while she was a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2009. Now the mixed media installation can now be viewed at the Worcester Art Museum, 55 Salisbury Street, Worcester. On Sunday, February 10th at 2 p.m. meet the artist and learn how Roman pine cones inspired her initial observational drawings and led her to draw other forms, in particular the patterned stone floors she encountered in medieval Roman Churches. Occupying floor and wall the installation is composed of hundreds of elements: drawings, photographs, paintings, sculptures, video, furniture, hand-carved frames, grouped into visual episodes. On Sunday, February 17th from 2-4 p.m. (snow date: February 24) view her exhibition then join Slosburg-Ackerman in the Museum's library to be a part of a Drawing Marathon, make a drawing that will become part of an evolving installation of drawings by members of the public and on display in the Museum Café. Both events included with regular museum admission. WOO Card holders enjoy two-for-one admission.  |
