Suzuki Play Down

Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester, 203 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, invites you to join Pakachoag's Suzuki Program coordinator Amy Matherly and other young violinists for a Suzuki Violin Playdown on Saturday, January 12th. The Bard is Back

Celebrate William Shakespeare at Clark University's Atwood Hall, 950 Main Street, Worcester, as they host The Auila Theater Company for a performance of Cyrano De Bergerac on Tuesday, January 15th and Taming of the Shrew on Wednesday, January 16th. Cyrano is one of the most famous romantic adventures in world literature while Taming offers the timeless story of the battle of the sexes. Admission just $10. This Narrow Distance

The Worcester Center for Crafts, 25 Sagamore Road, Worcester, will host an Opening Night Celebration for a new photography exhibit in the Center's Krikorian Gallery, This Narrow Distance, on Thursday, January 17th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The exhibit features works by Stephen DiRado, Keiko Hiromi, Hank Haptmann, Lindsey Camilli, Robert M. Johnson and Sarah Bilotta, and was curated by Louie Despres. Admission to the opening night celebration is FREE. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Return on Saturday, January 26th at 2 p.m. for an Artists Talk with photographers Sarah Bilotta and Hank Hauptmann. Admission is also free. This Narrow Distance will be on view through February 9th. JOMPATHON 2013

Students of all ages and levels will gather at the Joy of Music Program, 1 Gorham Street, Worcester, on Saturday, January 26th from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. for JOMPATHON 2013. This day long celebration featuring live performances helps raise funds for JOMP's Financial Aid program. Performers and audiences come and go throughout this marathon student recital. The event is a fun-filled celebration of JOMP's mission "to enrich lives and foster community through accessible music education and performance." Admission is FREE, donations appreciated. Fire & Ice

Old Sturbridge Village, 1 Old Sturbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, embraces the joys of an old fashioned winter with a Fire and Ice celebration complete with ice skating, sledding on vintage 1830s sleds and horse-drawn sleigh rides Saturday, January 26th - Sunday, January 27th. Visitors can watch the Mill Pond  ice harvested with vintage ice-cutting tools and learn how early New Englanders cut blocks of ice and shipped them around the world before the invention of electrical refrigeration (weather permitting). Afterwards guests can warm up with hot cider, stories, songs and fireside tales at the Bullard Tavern. Fire & Ice activities included with general admission. Safety Last!

Don't miss Safety Last!, a 1923 romantic comedy silent film starring Harold Lloyd, on view at The Hanover Theatre, 2 Southbridge Street, Worcester, on Saturday, January 26th at 3 p.m. The film includes one of the most famous images from the silent film era - Lloyd clutching the hands of a large clock as he dangles from the outside of a skyscraper above moving traffic. The film was highly successful and critically hailed, and cemented Lloyd's status as a major figure in early motion pictures.
