Joint statement by Fred Mitchell MP and Jerome Fitzgerald MP in response to Data Protection Commissioner
On Save The Bays related e-mails and the Data Protection Commissioner

We have taken note of a statement released by the Data Protection Commissioner over the weekend and a report in The Tribune's Business Section with comments referring to us by Fred Smith Q C. We have no comment to make on the Data Protection Commissioner's personal views on this matter except that we note with interest that no formal complaint has been received by her and therefore her statement and commentary in the absence of a formal complaint is indeed curious.

We merely point out to the public this matter is not about unauthorized e-mails. As we said in Parliament, this matter is about a well-funded environmental organization that is not about the environment, but Save The Bays is about politics and destabilizing the government of The Bahamas and has spent millions of dollars to do so.

Lost pets and what to do if your pet is missing
We take in so many "stray" dogs and cats that no one ever comes looking for. So many are friendly, even well cared for in some cases and we know they had homes. What many don't have are owners who make an effort to find them. Some people really don't know what to do when their pet is lost. We have had people tell us they searched and searched themselves and certainly they were trying, but the key to finding a lost pet is to have as many eyes looking as possible and that is why it's so important to make and distribute flyers everywhere.

One of our shelter dogs who was adopted to a home along with her kennel mate last Saturday, found a way to escape her new home on Monday. We were alerted to it on Tuesday and immediately posted a flyer online and printed copies to distribute throughout the neighborhood. We and the adopters were also searching on foot and by car.

Save The Bays' Joe Darville: We thank the data commissioner
Dear Editor,

I would like to publicly thank the Data Protection Commissioner for condemning the reckless, vindictive and totally unwarranted reading and tabling in the House of Assembly of our personal correspondence and information by members of the government.

The public release of this information was a cowardly, cynical and sinister act calculated to silence and intimidate, while at the same time distracting from their own considerable political troubles.

WSC asks students to show how wise they are about water with essay and video competition

In recent years, the Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC), has been reaching out to school students throughout The Bahamas to teach them about the importance of water conservation. In 2004, they launched their first essay competition, to gauge the strength of their knowledge and since then students have continued to show their water knowledge.

"Water and Sewerage is extremely pleased to reach out to the community, especially students through our flagship activity the National Essay & Video Competition," said Visna Armbrister, WSC Public Affairs Manager. "We look forward to the students' participation and have been pleased over the years with the quantity and quality of essays and now videos we've received."

The student competition began in 2004 and is the annual kick off for National Water Month, which is in May. The theme for this year's competition is 'Water for Survival: Value Every Drop'. Armbrister noted, "By using this theme, we hope to sensitize the public not only through the writings and video presentations of our students, but also through the media about the need to value this precious resource that we tend to take for granted."

The competition launched on March 21st and the deadline for entries to be submitted is April 22nd, 2016. Essays must be between 400 and 500 words and videos no longer than three minutes.
