Prime Minister Christie and John A. Rolle jointly named Jones Communications 'Person of the Year'

As a consequence, this year the management of The Jones Communications Network (JCN) decided that its Person of the Year Award for 2015 should be jointly awarded to Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Perry G. Disney Cruise Line donates used cooking oil to help power fleet of vehicles in the Bahamas
Since March 2011, Disney Cruise Line has donated more than 60,000 gallons of used cooking oil to Bahamas Waste Management to help power their fleet of vehicles in Nassau. Bahamas Waste collects the used cooking oil directly from Disney Cruise Line ships at the Port of Nassau and then converts it into biodiesel fuel - a nontoxic and biodegradable fuel that drastically reduces engine emissions in comparison to traditional petroleum diesel.

"We value our partnership with Bahamas Waste and the opportunity to contribute to improving the environment here in the Bahamas," said Barda Kosovrasti, Disney Cruise Line Manager of Corporate Citizenship. Antique Auto Club starts up the Christmas season

A team of club members went to each school arriving at noon as schools closed for the Christmas break. The children were encouraged in some carol singing prior to the gift giving, which was most enjoyable.

The Antique Auto Club is now in it's 25th year of conducting this "heartwarming, feel-good event" as a spokesman for the club described it, since Don Aranha, President at the time, proposed the idea.

"All throughout the year these men and women have committed themselves to being good stewards," said Philip Smith, founder of Kingdom Mercy Ministry and executive director of the Bahamas National Feeding Network. A Christmas shelter pet's poem from the Humane Society of Grand Bahama
Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
every shelter is full-we are lost, but not found.

Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
we hope every minute that someone will care.

They'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here, Max and Sparkie - come fetch your new ball!"

But now we sit here and think of the days
we were treated so fondly - we had cute, baby ways.

Once we were little, then we grew and we grew.
Now we're no longer young and we're no longer new.

WSC to spread holiday cheer throughout the southern Bahamas
During the festive season it's often said, 'it's better to give than to receive' and the Water & Sewerage Corporation (WSC) is continuing their tradition of celebrating the holidays by giving presents to children - this year to those affected by Hurricane Joaquin. After the storm ravaged the southern islands, the Corporation knew it had to do something to make the holidays full of cheer for those struggling to find normalcy. As such, the WSC team organised Christmas gifts to reach the affected children in Long Island, Acklins and Crooked Island.

Some presents were delivered last week and some this week, and the WSC family encourages everyone to do something this holiday season that's more about giving than receiving. "We are our brother's keeper and it's at times like these we must help one another," said Sophie Kanellopoulou, MIYA Project Manager. "We are very pleased to help spread some much needed Christmas cheer in the south."

Tips to make holiday meals happy for cancer patients
For the majority of families throughout The Bahamas, the holidays mean family time, laughter, maybe a little Christmas caroling and certainly a whole lot of food. But for those families whose holiday guest list includes a cancer patient at the table, food can take on a whole new meaning. "Cancer patients, particularly those undergoing chemotherapy, may be struggling with a lack of appetite," explains Dr. Williamson Chea, vice president of the Cancer Society of The Bahamas. "Or they may be experiencing other symptoms that affect appetite -- nausea, pain, a metallic taste or other common side effect that makes eating large or traditional meals difficult."

So how do you ensure that the person who is battling cancer can enjoy the holidays without depriving those who have a healthy appetite, literally, especially if even the sight of great platters of food can be upsetting?

At the Movies - Star Wars: The Force Awakens

One of the taglines for this film: The Force Is Calling To You. Just Let It In. Decades after the defeat of an oppressive government and its dictator whose influence had spread across the galaxy, a new unjust movement has risen to fill the power vacuum. Only the combined effort of a group of individuals from different walks of life can put an end to this new threat with ties to the previous one.

The spirit of George Lucas' first Star Wars film can be felt in the way J.J. Abrams went about directing this feature with an energy that can be felt in every action scene and even the special quiet moments. Harrison Ford fits nicely into the role of an older Han Solo as does Carrie Fisher with her part of a mature Leia Organa and Mark Hamill briefly as a stoic Luke Skywalker. John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac do a great job with the rest of the new cast in breathing fresh life to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

2015 Christmas message by Bahamas Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie

My Fellow Bahamians:

As we celebrate Christmas this year, let us be mindful of one of the great truths impressed upon humankind by Jesus Christ whose birth we are commemorating: Love Thy Neighbour As Thyself.

However, let's remember that our neighbours extend beyond the persons residing in the house next door. They encompass all of our brothers and sisters in the national family and those from other countries who live among us.

We know that it is easy to love our relatives and friends but if we are to build a stronger and safer Bahamas, we must share ourselves with our neighbours in the broadly defined sense of the term as I have just used it.

Love is usually shown at Christmas by giving material gifts to loved ones and in the fellowship of family dinners, parties and other social events. However, we need to remind ourselves that those who are not in those close circles of family and friends may be in even greater need of our love and compassion, especially at this time of year in this Season of Giving.

If we demonstrate love, compassion, peace, and a spirit of reconciliation towards all persons within our borders, many of the concerns that we have with our society will greatly diminish.

We witnessed real examples of this love and compassion when, in October, a number of islands in the central and southeastern Bahamas were ravaged by Hurricane Joaquin. It was a wonderful, even awe-inspiring example, of the great good that lies within us and of the powerful spirit of neighbourly goodwill that wraps us together into a national family. I cannot commend enough all those civic groups, religious organizations, government agencies and private individuals that partnered with the National Emergency Management Agency in addressing the needs of those ravaged by Joaquin.
