Pets need a hurricane plan too
With tropical storm Erika possibly tracking our way, everyone should be thinking about their hurricane plan and stocking up just in case. Please remember to stock up for your pets also!

Pets should not be left outdoors in even a minimal hurricane or tropical storm. If you are able to stay in your home, you must bring your pets indoors. If you live in an evacuation area and will not be staying in your home, please make arrangements now to board your pets - do not wait until the last minute as the few boarding facilities (including the HSGB shelter) will fill up fast. None of the human shelters on Grand Bahama will allow pets. Make sure to have adequate water and food supplies for your pets.

Please call the shelter at 352.2477 for more information and helpful hurricane tips.

Artist and musician to 'Freestyle' in Pompey Square for worthy causes
On Thursday, August 27th, 2015, one artist and one musician will take to Pompey Square for an 8-hour live art and music showcase. Dubbed "Freestyle: Outside the Lines pt. 1," Allan P. Wallace, of recent celebrity salt portraiture fame, and Arthol Gibson, local hip-hop and chill house DJ, also known as Ampero, hope to raise funds in support of two very worthy causes.

Both artists recognize the importance of giving back to their respective artistic communities and helping make things a little bit easier for the next generation of young Bahamian creatives. Chosen as beneficiaries of the event will be the Art Supply Drive, which raises gently used or new art materials to ease the financial burden of art students in the government school system. The Rhythym 'N' Youth Rake & Scrape Ensemble, born out of Gerald Cash Primary School, is another fantastic initiative led by Nathaniel Adams that ensures the cultural sustainability of our most precious traditional musical expression.

LETTERS: KB wonders "Did I hit a nerve?"
Merrian-Webster dictionary defines a clown as "a performer (as in a circus) who entertains by playing tricks and wears comical clothes and makeup."

Mr. Christie sir, contrary to what you have said, there is not one inaccurate lyric in my latest song entitled "We Gat Some Jokey Leaders", it may seem to be negative to you, yet it is the true feelings of the country, there is not one made up situation in the song, it's real life put to art. Songs like "Hold Dey Feet To Da Fire", "We Bein Sitted On", "I Ain't Fa VAT" and "Captain Kangaroo" they all speak to what is going on in our Bahama land today, go over every lyric and you will find that they are all true subject matters, I would welcome a discussion on my lyrics line by line, if you are so inclined to. However you must admit that lyrically and musically the song "We Gat Some Jokey Leaders" is tight.
