College of The Bahamas establishes scholarship fund with Commonwealth Brewery Ltd.
As The College of The Bahamas (COB) transitions into university status, the institution will benefit from a half-million-dollar endowment fund thanks to the generosity of Commonwealth Brewery's Endowed Educational Fund and Scholarship Award Programme. Along with a year-round internship, the scholarship provides a study abroad experience, and a guaranteed two-year entrance level employment opportunity.

COB's President Dr. Rodney Smith said scholarships, such as this one, are a "critical" part of higher education and impact not only the education of the recipient, but also their lives and their families. He said the "generous" and "significant" donation strategically complements and supports other vital steps on the College's journey to university.

Therapeutic yoga at Bahamas Medical Center helps seniors achieve and maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit
When you say the word 'Yoga', for most people, images of super fit, incredibly flexible people bending themselves into pretzel-like shapes pop into their heads. They certainly don't envision people suffering from injuries and debilitating illness or senior citizens sitting in chairs while stretching, practicing breathing exercises and learning to meditate. And they almost certainly don't picture a roomful of heavily pregnant mothers-to be performing yoga poses.

With the introduction of Therapeutic Yoga, Bahamas Medical Center on Blake Road is helping to change that mindset.

Kids and pets
"The kids are not taking care of the dog." Or cat, or hamster, or bunny. We hear this fairly often as a reason to surrender a family pet to our shelter. There are so many benefits for kids to grow up with pets that is makes us sad when the parents make such drastic decisions.

Letter: Pathetic utility service
How are business persons supposed to operate in this country when the unions and others get away with holding ordinary law abiding citizens hostage? My office telephone has been out of order for two weeks, in spite of the fact that the person who is calling can hear it ringing! I have called BTC countless times with promises of "your complaint has been passed on" to no avail.

Might I remind those service personnel who are making us suffer that it is us, the Bahamian people, who pay utility bills so that you can get your salary every month, so it is very wrong for you to take out your job dissatisfaction on us! In fact it is totally unacceptable and pathetic!

Commenting on the historic meeting of the Cabinet in Grand Bahama, the nation's chief executive said "our Government has decided that whenever we have the occasion that would enable us to efficiently meet in a particular part of The Bahamas, we would do so to serve the constitutional interest of our country and be able to show the people of the country how mobile the Government of The Bahamas is in the sense that we could meet in different parts of our Commonwealth and serve as a governing body.

"So today we are in Freeport! Today we will review matters pertinent and relevant to Grand Bahama and to Freeport.
