Melanie Sharon Griffin said Monday.

Addressing the opening of the Bahamas Girl Guides Association's 'Camp Areitos,' Minister Griffin said Girl Guides Associations in The Bahamas and across the globe have taught millions of girls the value of making sound decisions based on values and principles that emphasize duty to God and country and in helping others, as stated in the Guide Promise.

Birding fieldtrip to western Grand Bahama yields several rare sightings
The recent fieldtrip by the Grand Bahama Birding Group, led by Erika Gates, took enthusiastic participants to several productive birding sites in the western part of Grand Bahama Island.  The first stop was the mangrove wetland between Paradise Cove and the West End Highway where 14 species were observed. A Reddish Egret and a Tricolored Heron were exciting new species for several of the birders.

Off to a good start, the group proceeded to a wetland at Bootle Bay and amongst 14 species recorded at that location was a pair of Gadwalls which had not been seen on Grand Bahama before but had been recently recorded by Dr. Woody Bracey on Abaco!

New hope for Grand Bahama pups in New Providence
Almost a year ago our friends in Nassau began having to deal with yet another devastating round of Canine Distemper (CDV). After many months of battling this horrific disease, and thousands of dogs and puppies losing their lives to it in our capital, it seems that it has finally subsided somewhat.  Our friends at the Bahamas Humane Society (BHS) have found themselves with a shortage of dogs and puppies.

Last August, the Bahamas Dept. of Agriculture instituted a supposed ban on sending puppies under six months old outside of the country. Despite the only public account of this ban only including dogs from Nassau in this, the Dept. of Agriculture has insisted that no puppies under six months old be sent from any island and no dogs over six months old be sent without a rabies endorsement from their Department.

K.B. responds to Punch article: No, I am not performing at the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival
Like all of the other mistruths, wordplay and outright lies told about me, I will assume that the Minister of Tourism must have been misinformed, because according to the April 2nd, 2015 Punch newspaper article quoting the Minister, it is said that I am slated to perform at the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival 2015 event. This is not true.  I am not booked to perform on any of the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival 2015 events.

I felt that this should have always been a one hundred (100) percent Bahamian Festival, showcasing Bahamian culture at its finest.  As long as there are foreign acts at this so-called Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival, I will not perform.
