Save The Bays releases 3-minute Nygard Cay video, reveals theft of Crown Land, commends government for seeking public Input
Days before a public consultation process is expected to close, the fast-growing environmental advocacy group Save The Bays today released a video exposing some two decades of illegal land acquisition by dredging and filling activities by a foreign private citizen operating without permits and now requesting the right to expand.

The 3-minute video, prepared by Conch Salad TV for Save The Bays, shows close-up waterfront sights for the first time behind the gates of Nygard Cay, the exclusive and exotic retreat at the tip of Lyford Cay with tentacles into Clifton Bay. Activities at the cay, owned by Canadian fashion mogul Peter Nygard, have long aroused concern by civic organisations and neighbours, including residents of Lyford Cay, in addition to dive tour operators, fishermen and locals who are watching its impact on nearby Jaws Beach.

Remarks by the Prime Minister at the 35th CARICOM Heads of Government Meetings

Mr. Chairman,

Let me first add my words of warm congratulations to you on your election both as Head of Government of Antigua and Barbuda and as the Head of the Conference and Head of the OECS. This is what you would you call a real baptism by fire or in football language a hat trick. I wish you well. I am sure that you will do well in the service of your people and those of the wider region.

I am happy to be back in Antigua. I have a long history with this nation. I have been here both in an official and in a private capacity. I am an old friend of your former Prime Minister in the days when we were both athletes, Lester Byrd, your national hero and senior minister. So it is good to be back here. It goes without saying that my delegation is pleased at the arrangements that have been made for us and the warm welcome of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

Bahari - a new Bahamian clothing line makes its debut
It's not your run-of-the-mill Independence t-shirts. In fact, it doesn't even look, or feel like a t-shirt at all. Combine the synthetic fabric of a sport's jersey with bright eye-popping colours, an enlarged Bahamian coat of arms, a signature metal and leather emblem and Bahamas 73 emblazoned on the back, and you have an authentic BAHARI shirt, a new Independence collection that has taken the country by storm.

Creative Director for BAHARI is twenty-five year old, Grand Bahama native, Morgan Fernander. "The aim is for BAHARI to stand out beyond being just another Independence clothing line. We wanted to create a brand that Bahamians can appreciate and value," Fernander offers. "Aiming to please a discerning market, much time was spent deciding on every single detail on our shirts, from the fabric reams to the specific pantone colours, creating the moulds for the leather and metal emblems, the garment specification sheets, the garment tags with our logos stitched inside and even the hang tags," he explains.

"Due to management efforts and successful breeding seasons in recent years the Bahama Parrot population on Abaco has increased," said Marcus Davis, Deputy Park Warden for Abaco National Park where the parrots breed.  "The parrots regularly cross over the Great Abaco Highway in flight, and the Parrot Crossing signs will alert motorists using the Highway that Bahama Parrots are using the Ernest Dean Highway along with them, and further inform them to proceed with caution."

At the Movies: 22 Jump Street

This movie does not have a tagline. A Viking chief's son and his dragon discover a band of dragon trappers. When they are mistaken for a mysterious Dragon Rider, it illuminates the possibility of allies in their quest for humans and dragons to co-exist. The only setback in their mission may be the Viking who has hired the dragon trappers and his army of dragons robbed of their free will.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and his Night Fury dragon Toothless have both grown in the five years since they first met and have been exploring more of their surrounding area as they both learn more about what they can accomplish, but as they get older it becomes there are more responsibilities they can no longer shirk for exploration. Valka ride a Stormcutter dragon named Cloudjumper and is the protector of the wild dragons from the dragon trappers, but she has a past which is linked to Hiccup and Stoick the Vast which could change the family dynamic of the chieftain and his son for the foreseeable future. Eret is a dragon trapper who must deal with these new riders of Berk as he tries to fill his dragon quota so he doesn't lose his life by disappointing his employer, but that becomes increasing difficult after he catches the eye of Ruffnut Thorston in the midst of a brew dragon conflict. Drago Bludvist is a dragon hunter who wants nothing more than to dominate every dragon in his sphere of influence and crush any human settlements which do not agree with his view of dragons as beaten down animals used as weapons to win wars.

NASSAU, Bahamas -- BTC crowned Tonesha Smith and Gabrielle Stubbs as the new BTC Senior and Junior  winners of Starmaker 5 during the show's finale at the British Colonial Hilton on Jun 26. Daniella Joseph and Leroy Armbrister were the first runners up for the competition, and Owen Smith and D'Angelo Symonette were the Wild Card finalists, chosen via viewer text votes and social media contests.

Taylour Paige, who stars as Ahsha Hayes on VH1's, Hit The Floor, was the guest speaker, and recounted her struggle to make it in Hollywood, and the perseverance it took for her to land her breakthrough role. Paige encouraged all of the contestants to never give up, and continue to fight for what they want in life, no matter what. "Dream big and remember that life is wonderful" said Paige, who was presented with an original caricature painting from artist Mathew Wildgoose, who was also this season's host, and a gift from Columbian Emeralds, one of the show's sponsors.

Smith, a 21 year old recent graduate of the College of the Bahamas, and resident of Nassau, noted that she was ecstatic to be the Senior winner of Starmaker 5, but notes that the win was a bit unexpected. "Winning feels great. It is hard to put into words...I feel good, wonderful, great! I'm still in shock, and it hasn't fully hit me yet. I would just like to thank BTC for every single opportunity that they have afforded me as well as all of the other contestants." Smith also received the Most Popular award.

Junior winner, Stubbs, who also took home the Photogenic and Congeniality awards, was also shocked by the results, and noted that she was grateful to have been able to win over the judges during the show's later challenges, where her personality was able to shine. "I feel absolutely ecstatic. When I got the cheque, and heard that I won, I was just a flutter with emotion. I hope that the next year will have lots of opportunities, connections for the future, and will help me to reach all of my goals. I want to just thank BTC for everything that they are doing for the youth of the Bahamas. Thank you for giving me the opportunity, and the mentoring, advice and help that you gave us all throughout the competition. The team was like a family to us, and I really had a great experience." said Stubbs.

Head judge, Stacia Williams, noted that choosing a winner was extremely difficult, but the judges choice came down to attitude, potential, confidence, and the contestant's growth during the duration of the competition. "The judges were looking for someone who was articulate, someone who had excellent interpersonal skills, the wow factor, the confidence and everything it takes to be a star. We chose Tonesha and Gabrielle because I don't think anyone can dispute that they will represent BTC in a good and positive way" noted Williams.
