| Post Office releases Christmas commemorative stamps |
 |
|
The Bahamas Postal Service will release a set of stamps entitled Christmas 2013 - The Nativity today (Tuesday, November 19).
The set of six stamps portray a familiar scene from the story of the Nativity and is beautifully illustrated in ink. According to the Post Office, the unusual medium was selected because of the especially bright and vibrant colours that can be achieved and which reflect the Christmas spirit of hope and celebration.
The main focus of the six designs is one particular character, but a theme that is depicted throughout all of them (including the First Day Cover) is the Star of Bethlehem or Christmas Star, that inspired The Three Kings to travel to Jerusalem and which eventually led them to Jesus' house in Bethlehem.

| Palm Cay creates custom-made playground built for the whole family |
 |
|
Every parent who has ever pushed a swing and smiled as it soars skyward with a carefree and joyful child will like this story - the playground swing is not just for children any more. At Palm Cay, a fast-growing nautical community on New Providence's southeastern shore, they've taken the concept of family -oriented one step farther, building what is believed to be Nassau's first parent and child playground.
"We're a family-oriented community. That's central to everything we do so we set out to create a playground where the whole family could play," said Marketing and Sales Director Zachary 'Zack' Bonczek. "We were fortunate that we found a Bahamian company that was able to take that plan and make it happen."

Joined by Dr. Myles Munroe, as well as local and international presenters, the panellists focused on 'How to build business and wealth with morality and ethics'. According to President Rolle, true business and personal success can be achieved by making one's competition irrelevant. | Humane Society of Grand Bahama conducts survey in Eight Mile Rock area |
 |
We know from our shelter intake figures that our western communities need targeted, comprehensive spay neuter services. Our shelter intake just through October of this year is over 1,100 animals, including 26% from West Grand Bahama alone!
With a view to holding a spay/neuter clinic early next year in this area, we are undertaking a community survey to better determine the number of animals in need, which will be invaluable in fundraising and planning for the clinic. We started last Saturday with Eight Mile Rock, the largest settlement in the entire Bahamas.
Thanks to students from the GGYA and Interact groups from Jack Hayward High School, and Chervita Campbell, organizer supreme, we visited a total of 105 homes in Hepburn Town, Bartlett Hill, Hanna Hill and Pinedale.
We have already found 154 dogs and 53 cats that need to be fixed. We will continue with the rest of Eight Mile Rock on Saturday November 30th. We would be grateful for more adult volunteers - if you're interested in helping us with this important project, please call Tip at 352-2477 during the week, or email info@hs-gb.org, or message or post on Facebook.

| IJet Charters and Tropic Ocean Airways launch Fort Lauderdale - Hope Town seaplane service |
 |
|
For those traveling to quaint and popular Hope Town-a picturesque 18th century village just off Great Abaco-the journey soon will be significantly shorter and more convenient, courtesy of a new seaplane flight option announced today.
Direct scheduled chartered flights from Fort Lauderdale initially will be available on Fridays and Sundays beginning February 2014.
Fort Lauderdale-based Tropic Ocean Airways, which re-instituted regular seaplane service to the region in 2012, is partnering with IJet Charters, also based in Fort Lauderdale, to offer direct scheduled public charter flights to Hope Town, a popular, but often time consuming trip for air travelers.
"What often is at least a half day time investment for travelers, connecting flights through South Florida to Marsh Harbour and then a cab and ferry to a final destination in Hope Town is now cut dramatically through our ability to taxi directly up to the beaches at Hope Town," said Jim Swieter, founder of IJet Charters.

FEATURE STORY: Old Bight students learn and have fun during Junior Council elections |
|
|
|
"Election Fever" was in full blaze as Old Bight High School students held campaigns and debates, in Old Bight, Cat Island, as part of the Local Government Junior Council elections at their school, on November 14, 2013.
Candidates decided to form parties to show teamwork from the very beginning. The teams were the Positive Dream Makers (PDM), the Young Women of Standards (YWS) and MEAD (Maintaining Effective Adjustments Dominantly), the latter is pronounced "med" to rhyme with "head".
The teams had supporters, flyers, posters, entry music and platforms, such as sports facilities and repairs and renovations to their school campus.
Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Local Government were in Cat Island from November 13 - 15, 2013, to oversee and conduct elections during that week, along with local coordinators, at Arthur's Town and Old Bight High Schools.
Tania Armstrong, grade 10, said that she thought the campaign and the elections would be good for Old Bight High.
"It is going to build up the school mentally and physically - like how they were talking about a gymnasium," she said. "Mentally, it is going to help us with our work because we are going to have extra classrooms and extra teachers."
