    Furry friends need foster families

Some of the definitions of "foster" include to bring up, raise, or rear, or to care for or cherish. In the animal rescue world, foster families are literally the cornerstone of any successful re-homing programme. A shelter environment is simply not conducive to the nurturing and socialization of young puppies or kittens, nor to healing and socialization of neglected or sick adult animals.

We won't tell you it's easy. It does involve some work, and commitment. Many people say they can't do it, because it would be too hard to give them up. Successful fosters agree that it is hard; but even harder is to contemplate the animals' fate otherwise. Finding a foster family for an orphaned puppy, kitten or litter can truly be the difference between life and death.

    FEATURE STORY:
'Deserving Bahamians' to be honoured with Bahamian awards

Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie revealed that "deserving Bahamians" will be honoured with Bahamian awards during the official launch of The Bahamas' 40th Anniversary of Independence.

"In a former term as Prime Minister, I appointed the National Cultural Development Commission with the mission to organise and formulate a wide range of policies and positions on cultural matters," Prime Minister Christie said during the ceremony in Rawson Square, Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

Prime Minister Christie said among its other planned events, the National Independence Committee is working with The College of The Bahamas on hosting the 40th Anniversary Independence Conference.

He explained that the conference, which will be held June 12 - 14, and is open to the public, will do much to help further educate and examine what the future of The Bahamas can be.
