COLUMN: Island Notes by Peter Barratt
Island Notes: Bahama Saga - A screenplay featuring the epic story of the Bahamas in 12 episodes

The text that follows is intended to provide a background for the crafting of a cinematographic screenplay for either a full length film or alternatively a twelve episode television show about the Bahama Islands. It is closely based on the book 'Bahama Saga' by Peter Barratt. More background to the story can be gleaned from the book.

    EPISODE 1 - A LAND REVEALED (CIRCA 40,000BC - 600AD)

LOCATION: Mongolia (or any other steppe-like location)

    Screen subtitle: Mongolia

The screenplay opens with a view of the seemingly endless steppes of Central Asia in winter. The camera slowly focuses on a huddle of Stone Age people trekking through the snow with a herd of Bactrian camels, goats, sheep, and cattle (the route of the trek shown in form of an animated chart). The scene zooms in to their wizened old leader, a shaman, who holds up his staff to bring the caravan to a halt.

FEEDBACK - Letter to the Editor
LETTER: If in seven months things can be this wrong, in seven months things could have been done right

Supporters of the governing Party like to say to critics "the government has just gotten in, you've got to give them some time before you critique them on their performance - Rome wasn't built in a day." Fair enough. But here is the question though - why does the government need to be given much more time to do what's right and good, when it has clearly wasted no time at all in causing a mess in numerous government ministries and agencies?

We can support whatever we choose in terms of political parties and the politicians connected to them, but facts do not change simply because we choose to ignore them, spin them or act as though they do not exist at all. - How many Bahamians, through a direct act of government, have seen their employment status switch from working to jobless since May 7, 2012?

    FEATURE STORY:
Señor Frogs opens in Grand Bahama and helps the GB Children's Home

Last week saw the official opening of the newest Bahamas Señor Frogs in Grand Bahama. The grand opening was made all that more special as the Managing Owner, Auturo Solas, decided to make the event a fundraiser for the Grand Bahama Children's Home. The 200 invited guests were asked to donate to the Home as they enjoyed dinner and drinks on the house!

On hand to officially open the restaurant was Senator Tanisha Tynes, stepping in for Minister of Tourism Obadiah Wilchcombe, who was unable to attend but was instrumental in bringing the restaurant to Grand Bahama. In his absence, Senator Tynes brought remarks along with Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) president Ian Rolle. Both cut the ceremonial ribbon so the night's festivities could begin.

Salas said he is happy to be a part of the Grand Bahama community and thanked Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe for the Señor Frog's franchise to be realised on the island. He hopes to make a great impact on the island and give as much as he can in helping the community grow.
