* Park Tudor faculty and students will have their artwork featured at the Indianapolis Museum of Art this Spring. The Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA) Bicentennial exhibition, 19 Stars of Indiana Art: A Bicentennial Celebration, will celebrate the art of various artists who were born, raised or worked in Indiana in the past 200 years. The IMA invited students and faculty of area schools to create artwork in response to four of Indiana's nature artists: T.C. Steele, David Smith, Frank Hohenberger, and George Winter.
The work of Park Tudor students Clare Chandler, April Hamilton, Margaret Johnston, Benton Wiegel, and faculty Kathy Campbell and Laura Schroeder will be on display in the Inspired by Indiana Nature Artists gallery from May 15, 2016 to January 8, 2017. A tour and student recognition for the winning artists will be held on Sunday, June 12.
* Freshman Sarah Enkema's photography was recognized in New York City at the national 2016 Scholastic Art Awards. This January, students across the country submitted nearly 320,000 works of art and writing to the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Nearly 18,000 works across the country earned regional Gold Keys and advanced to New York City for national adjudication. Of those Gold Key works, just 2,400 received National Medals. In addition, 260 literary and visual arts professionals served as judges, selecting works based on originality, technical skill, and emergence of a personal voice or vision.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers' mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their visionary work to the world through recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards bring the work of young people to regional and national audiences. Former recipients include artists Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, Kay WalkingStick, and John Baldessari and writers Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Maya Goldberg, and Joyce Carol Oates. Sarah Enkema's work received a National Silver Key Award and ranked in the top 1% of art and writing submitted to the 2016 Scholastic Awards! We are so proud of Sarah for this remarkable achievement. * Park Tudor students will perform side-by-side with students from IPS School #70 in another example of our efforts to connect classroom, campus, and community. This year, Upper School band and orchestra students participated in a mentorship program with 45-50 4th & 5th grade students at IPS School #70. During each visit, the Upper School students conducted sectional work with the 4th & 5th grade students and completed each session with a group rehearsal. The collaboration has formed friendships, honed skills and provided a common shared experience for the joy and love of music. On Thursday, April 21, Park Tudor will welcome students and families from IPS #70 to enjoy a side-by-side performance at the Upper School Instrumental Concert. This event is free and open to the public. The concert will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. in Ayres Auditorium. * Students in Lamonte Kuskye's Upper School Musical Theatre class performed for a packed house at the Cabaret at the Columbia Club last Thursday, April 14. The students sang many popular show tunes and other selections, impressing the audience with their musical and performance skills. Throughout the semester, Shannon Forsell, the Artistic Director for the Cabaret at the Columbia Club, worked with the students during several class sessions. The students also traveled to New York over President's Day weekend to see a variety of shows and work with performers. The students who performed were Thomas Bamforth, West Clark, Kylie Clouse, Michael French, Nick Gehring, Samantha Hogshire, Sarah Klotz, Natalie Long, Lindsay Lucas, Michelle Redifer, Sally Root, Claire Toomey, and Maya Voelkel.

MS Students Raise $12,943.17 to Fund a Well in Uganda
Middle School students learned last week that the $12,943.17 they raised as part of their Project:Well efforts earlier in the year has been sent to Uganda to fund a well. Students conducted a Water Walk and sold bottles of water during Water Week to raise money for the well. MS students learned about the impact the well will have - Uganda is rebounding after two decades of civil war. More than 1.6 million people were internally displaced (80% were women and children) and many remain far from home today. But clean water projects can improve health, shorten the time spent walking for water, and even help define and rebuild communities returning to or looking for a home after years of displacement.

Boys Golf: The boys golf team has had a great start to their season. On Saturday the boys got up very early in the morning to travel to the Van Pelt/Cross Richmond Invitational. After an hour and a half drive the team warmed up and got a good feeling for the speed of the greens. It was a perfect day to play golf and it turned out to be a perfect day for the team. They shot a tournament best 317 and won the invite by 12 strokes. The team was led by sophomore Stephen Kocerha who shot a one-over-par 71. Not even the pressure of being late to prom could stop this team. The momentum continued Monday when they traveled to Pebble Brook to play Guerin Catholic. Guerin Catholic is a top 20 team in the state and PT brought home another victory defeating them 147-150. Low man was again Sophomore Stephen Kocerha who shot an even-par 34. This early success can be attributed to the hard work and dedication the team put in over the winter and in the start of the season. Upcoming events are the Noblesville Invite at Fox Prairie this Saturday and the Marion County Tournament on Monday, April 25 at Winding River.
Boys Lacrosse: The boys lacrosse team is currently 3-2. They have defeated Avon, North Central, and Maine South from Illinois and lost to Noblesville in the season opener and against Guerin in overtime. They are an exciting team to watch! Baseball: The baseball team got off to a strong start with an opening day win in Nashville, Tennessee versus the Tennessee Heat 11-7. The team is led this season by a strong core of senior and junior players and should be exciting to watch, especially come tournament-time at the end of May. Girls Lacrosse: With one of the younger teams in the past four years, the Park Tudor Girls lacrosse team is off to a great start in Indiana. In their first 7 in-state games, they have a 6-1 record, with their only loss coming in a hard fought game against Cathedral. This team is a tough, hardworking, and gritty group that understands and embraces the team game. Coed Track: The coed track team competed on Friday, April 8, in the Stargazer Invitational at Corydon Central High School. History of WWII Trip Coming in July, 2017
As a follow up to two popular trips focused on WWII sponsored by Park Tudor in 2013 and 2014, in July 2017 there will be a custom tour to important WWII sites in England and France.
Because this trip is customized, it will appeal to a variety of travelers, including WWII aficionados, Anglo- and Francophiles, and those who want to explore something new and exciting involving language, art and culture. The trip has been tentatively scheduled for July 5-14, 2017. Because this is a custom trip, we must ideally have 25+ participants. The trip is primarily designed for adults (parents, faculty, alumni including PT class of 2017, and the community at large), but we will also consider upper class students (if space is available and their PT trip application has been approved. This trip is particularly well-suited for students who wish to practice their French language skills, love history, or have completed the WWII Military History elective in 2017.
Itinerary Highlights of the trip include sightseeing in London, followed by a trip to Caen where we will visit the Normandy beaches, see the Bayeux Tapestry, and visit the American Cemetery, among many other popular sites. From Caen, we will go to Paris for more sightseeing and a visit to Les Invalides, where we will see Napoleon's Tomb. For detailed information on the itinerary, click here.
Our tour number is: 1804376WM and Kathryn Lerch is the group leader. This trip is coordinated by EF Educational Tours, one of the premier groups working with both students and adults. It is possible for travelers to extend their trip on either end, or purchase the "land only" tour. For such "special travel" options or other questions regarding finances, contact EF Customer Service directly (800-665-5364). For More Information Please contact Kathryn Lerch (klerch@parktudor.org, or 317-251-8661) or Gary Bender (gbender@parktudor.org or 317-415-2917) for more information about the trip. All student applications for the trip must be approved by Mrs. Lerch. During the 2016-2017 school year, there will be monthly evening or weekend sessions which will include information about travel to England and France, but the focus will be military history topics related to the trip. All tour participants will receive a reading list, and there will be opportunities for group discussions. These meetings are encouraged for all adults, but required for students. It is imperative that everyone attend so that when we depart in July 2017, we will know one another and we will be ready to put our knowledge to work!
