Author Paul Watkins will read from his memoir, Stand Before Your God: An American Schoolboy in England. In his memoir, Watkins recounts his move to England at age seven and time at the Dragon School (and later Eton), where he encounters bullies and strict schoolmasters as he discovers his own capacity for learning and creativity. Expanding on a popular TED Talk - "The Danger of the Single Story" by author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - this discussion will explore how an interdisciplinary approach can enhance study in a variety of ways. PT Classic 5K

Dance Kaleidoscope will present the work of four choreographers who are changing the dance world, one of whom is Park Tudor Class of 1977 alumna, Lucy Bowen McCauley. Lucy is the artistic director, choreographer and creative energy behind Bowen McCauley Dance in Arlington, VA.

March Madness Update: Class of '03 in the Lead
The class of '03 has jumped out to lead the March Madness Young Alumni Challenge, but '95, '94 and '04 are close behind.
Gifts from all eligible alumni between July 1, 2014 and March 23, 2015 count toward your class's participation. Every contribution, regardless of size, touches students and faculty, keeping Park Tudor's legacy strong, vibrant and timeless.

The school-wide 5x5 Art Salon exhibition is back! Parents, faculty, students and alumni are invited to submit artworks and writing pieces measuring 5 x 5 inches, to be exhibited during Alumni Weekend (April 24-25). The submission deadline is April 17. This year's Salon will have a theme: A to Z. Visual art and writing pieces may incorporate or celebrate one letter or the entire alphabet in any way you wish--as always, creativity is key and all works will be exhibited, this time in alphabetical order! Sports News: Boys Basketball Regional Champs!
* Boys Basketball: The Panthers are Regional Champs, defeating Crispus Attucks High School 92-77 in the final. The Semi-State game is this Saturday, March 21 at 4:00 p.m. against Linton Stockton. The game will be at Southport High School, 971 East Banta Rd. Tickets are $8.00. The game will be televised live locally in Indianapolis on WHMB-TV (Channel 40).
TO PURCHASE TICKETS FOR THE STATE FINALS: If the Panthers make it to the State Finals, tickets will be available for alumni to purchase at Park Tudor on Tuesday, March 24 in the Gym from 2:30 - 6:00 p.m.
Tickets are $15 each, cash or check made payable to Park Tudor School. The State Finals will be played on Saturday, March 28 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, with the 2A game played at approximately 12:30 p.m. For those wishing to sit together, there is a limit of 10 tickets in a single purchase.
* 7th and 8th Grade Girls Basketball: Congratulations to the Middle School 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team. They were the IISL regular season champions and won the IISL end of the year tournament for the 2nd year in a row. They finished the season undefeated in the conference. Players: 8th Graders - Trinity Brady, Sarah Enkema, Alissa Honigford, Lauren Allen, Abby Anderson 7th Graders - Kristian Young, Heather MacNab, Annabelle Hasslebeck, Caroline Smith, Alicia Aaholm, Jorden Snow, Riley Foster, Sydney Leohr The team was coached by Steve Curry and assistant Vincent Brady, and Oliver Main served as team manager. * 6th Grade Girls Basketball: Congratulations to the sixth grade girls basketball team. They were the IISL regular season champions and won the IISL end of year tournament; they finished the season undefeated! Members of the team: Marta Arellano, Abby Guyer, Gabby Lindeman, Annie Murphy, Inez Gomez-Diaz, Mallory Hasselback, Natanya Katz, Kaitlyn Maier, Skylar Maclean, Channing Christian, Christina Chun, Carly Weigel, Gabby Grider, Hailey Hurst, Caroline Kittle, Margaret McClain, Olivia White, Cassie Debshaw, Lily Freihofer, Zaeadi Kigamwa. Team manager is Wellesley Mobasser. Coaches are Lisa Trimpe and Carolyn Coyne. * Hockey: Seniors JJ Freudenberg and JP LaBarge and sophomore Adam Gottwald, along with their teammates, received the Henry G. Schallert Team Academic Award during the hockey state tournament. This award recognizes the Indiana high school team with the highest total GPA for the first semester of the current school year. This is the first Team Academic award for the Central Indiana Knights. |
Students and Faculty in the News
* Seniors Laurel Fink and Michaela Tinkey have been named 2015 United States Presidential Scholars Candidates by the Department of Education. They are two of 3,900 nationally to receive this invitation. Semi-finalists will be named in mid April and Scholars named in May. Finalists will receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion in a ceremony sponsored by the White House during a National Recognition Program in Washington, D.C. in June. Best of luck to Laurel and Michaela!
* 10 Park Tudor students have been accepted to participate in the Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages this summer. The French and Spanish students will spend seven weeks living with a host family, attending classes, and taking cultural excursions. They will be fully immersed in the language and culture of the host country. The Chinese students will spend five similar weeks in China.
The accepted students (and the locations where they will study) are: Viņa del Mar, Chile: John Stewart and Nathaniel Hopf-Nelson; Hangzhou, China: Marcus Downs and Luke Elliott; Brest, France: Hadley Rankin; St. Brieuc, France: Simon Hart; Saumur, France: John (Alex) Stout; Ciudad Real, Spain: Jack Dassow; Leon, Spain: Anne McCarter; Oviedo, Spain: Charles Stewart

* Senior and Park Tudor "Lifer" Jenee Young recently was awarded the prestigious Dr. John Morton-Finney Leadership Scholarship from Butler University. Jenee competed against more than 70 students from across the nation for this full-tuition, four-year scholarship. Officials from the university and Trip III (the Butler Bulldog) made a special visit to campus to present the award and celebrate Jenee's accomplishment. Congratulations to Jenee!
* On March 7th, Park Tudor's Brain Game team defended its ICC Conference title with victories over Speedway (51-31), Scecina (45-42), and Ritter (18-15). Senior Captain Michaela Tinkey was joined by senior Robert Myrehn, sophomore Annie Dora, and freshmen Rena Li, Michelle Shen, and Allen Zhao. The Panthers continued WTHR 13 tournament play on 3/18 against Pike.
* Seventh-grader Cameron Smith has qualified for the state geography bee taking place on March 27th at IUPUI. Cameron qualified based on participating in the geography bee in Courtney Whitehead's class.

* Artworks by Sophia George and Annie McCarter were selected for a year-long traveling art exhibition. Their works were chosen from hundreds of artworks entered in the Scholastics Art & Writing Competition that received a Gold or Silver Key recognition. These works will be on view in various locations throughout the state until May of 2016. Congratulations to Sophia and Annie!
* Junior Mike McGill was selected by audition to participate in the annual Side-by-Side concert with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The spectacular concert featuring the 100+ piece orchestra of 55 students from 18 schools sitting alongside the professional musicians of the ISO was held March 4 after two months of intense weekly rehearsals on music of Beethoven, Smetana and Stravinsky. Mike earned the Principal Bass chair for his section.
* Vanessa Xiao (grade 5) and Maria Grant (grade 8) competed in the Regional Spelling Bee at IUPUI on March 10. Competition was fierce among the 30 competitors; Maria made it to the 13th round, and Vanessa finished in third place overall.
* Upper School social studies teacher Margo McAlear and alumna Shelby Brown '14 spoke at the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference in March. They will be speaking about "The Giving Games," a project that Margo instituted in her AP World History course. Click here to read Margo's blog entry about the project.
* Lorelei Farlow, PT Orchestra Director, and Mark Schuster, PT violin/viola teacher, served as adjudicators for the ISSMA State Level Solo and Ensemble Contest on February 28.

Save the Date - PT Golf Outing
Spring is here and the Booster Club is working hard on this year's Golf Outing. Space is limited so make sure you sign up today! This year's event will take place on Monday, June 15 at the Bridgewater Golf Course and helps to support Park Tudor's athletic programs and the Annual Fund. Sign up for Summer Camp! Early Bird Registration for Innovators Institute Ends
April 15
It's hard to believe, but summer is just around the corner. Several of our popular summer camps are filling up quickly, but many spots are still available. Register today to make sure that your student gets to experience the extraordinary summer opportunities available at Park Tudor .
The new Park Tudor Innovators Institute for students entering grades 9-12 is now accepting applications, with a special "Early Bird" registration discount until April 15. The Innovators Institute gives students the opportunity to learn the skills needed to successful in college and beyond, while gaining experience to help them become leaders in their fields of interest. Students will learn how to think like innovators by cultivating skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication, and collaboration. Students can choose to focus on Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship, or Vex Robotics.
A one-week Junior Innovators Institute for students entering grades 6-8 is also available.
