Welcome Spring!
Hello All!
Happy Spring! We finally made it after wondering many times if we ever would.
Visiting the people we serve is one of the most important and rewarding activities carried out by APSI staff. Seeing the person face to face in their home or place of work provides us with a valuable opportunity to observe what their day to day life is like. We learn so much from these visits.
This winter presented significant challenges to our employees as they worked to complete regional visits. Do you know despite the severe weather we made 6591 visits in January, February and March for the over 4100 people we serve? That is incredible under any circumstances! I commend the commitment of everyone who got out there day after day, storm after storm.
You truly make a difference.
Sincerely,
Karla

A WORD ABOUT AWARDS
| Attention PSRs! Do you have trouble remembering when it is time to review a behavior support plan and complete a BSP Checklist for those on your caseload?
Don't worry! You are not alone, and soon we will be able to utilize AWARDS to help with this.
In the near future once a BSP Checklist is completed by a PSR and approved by an RPD, the RPD will then add a due date for the next BSP checklist into the charting timetable. By doing this, you will start to receive reminders in AWARDS when it is time to review a BSP. They will look very similar to the reminders you currently receive when it is time to do a med procedure follow up or a complex needs follow up.
Watch for more details on this process coming soon from your RPD! |
Medical Minute
| Here are a few tips and reminders from the Medical Specialists to help keep communication between Central Office and the Regional Offices running smoothly:
1. When you are sending an AWARDS message remember to put the name of the individual you are writing about in the subject line of your message.
2. If the AWARDS message you are sending is of a high priority, please remember to choose "URGENT" from the priority drop down box in the heading of your message. This will alert the Medical Specialist to the urgency of your message.
3. When you are typing a progress note into the AWARDS system that is related to a medical issue please remember to choose "Medical" as the progress note type on the Progress Note Data Entry screen. Choosing the appropriate note type will make it much easier for everyone to find medical information when looking at the consumer history screen in AWARDS.
4. Please note that when you contact Central Office to provide an update to the Medical Specialists, you are still required to enter a note of your own into AWARDS outlining the information you obtained and shared with the Medical Specialist. If you don't have access to your computer at the time you are making the update, please remember that you can always use your smartphone to enter information into AWARDS when necessary.
The Medical Department would like to thank everyone for all they are doing to follow up on medical issues for those we serve! The continued diligence of those in the regions to provide ongoing, timely information and updates about those APSI serves is very much appreciated. Thanks again!

Kroger Community Rewards Program
|
Exciting news! APSI has recently been approved for enrollment into the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Approval for this program means that APSI employees and friends of our agency can now register their Kroger Plus cards online to join in the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Participation in the Community Rewards Program will allow APSI to start earning cash rebates for purchases made by members of our organization! Kroger will keep track of all eligible purchases and will send APSI a rebate check at the end of each quarter. The best part is, choosing APSI will not impact the rewards you may be currently receiving as a Kroger Plus member! You will still retain the fuel points and other benefits as you always have. The rebates that APSI will earn are completely separate from your personal rewards!
Registration must take place online and as part of the registration process you will either need to choose Advocacy & Protective Services by name or enter a nonprofit organization number. The nonprofit organization number for Advocacy & Protective Services is 11704.
Once you are registered, you must swipe your registered Kroger Plus card or use the phone number that is related to your registered Kroger Plus card when shopping for each purchase to count.
If you have questions or need assistance with the registration process please contact Angie Gerding at (614)262-3800 ext 204.

APSI Takes Part In Nonprofit Legislative Day
|
On April 9th Karla Rinto, Angie Gerding, and APSI's development consultant, Susan Black, joined representatives from various Ohio nonprofit organizations to participate in the Nonprofit Legislative Day held at the Ohio Statehouse.
This event was sponsored by the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations (OANO) and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
OANO and AFP organized this event to provide a forum for their members to meet with various legislators about the importance of supporting the nonprofit sector.
Throughout the day Karla, Angie, and Susan were able to meet privately with aides for the following legislators from around the state:
Sen. Randy Gardner (R)
Rep. Armond Budish (D)
Rep. Mike Duffey (R)
Rep. Stephanie Kunze (R)
Rep. Matt Lundy (D)
Rep. Robert Sprague (R)
During these meetings
the representatives from APSI were able to spend time providing each legislative aide with information about our mission and how important it is for the legislature to continue their support of APSI and other Ohio nonprofits.
