Note from the editor
Rachel Brummond '15
Fall is finally here! It's been a crazy couple of weeks on campus with Family Weekend and Homecoming. Everyone on campus has been grateful for the weather we've had and the season of apple cider and brilliant red and orange trees could not be more beautiful. New in this October issue of the Parent Newsletter are links to student blogs and a virtual tour of campus. In addition to the new links, we have linked each photo in the newsletter to a corresponding gallery on Luther's Flickr page. Our spotlight highlights Luther's Counseling Service, as midterms are wrapping up and most classes are getting into the meat of the subject matter, which can cause high stress levels. Most importantly, we would love you to check out the new page built specifically to the pulse of campus. Aptly named "Connect," this website will connect you to all of Luther's social media accounts, as well as newsletters to match your Luther interests. On this site everything is consolidated to make it easier for you! Check it out and sign up for what you find most interesting. On that same note, we will be debuting a new communications piece that will take the form of a weekly calendar of upcoming music events, both Luther-sponsored and in the Decorah community, so be sure to watch for it! As always, don't hesitate to email us with suggestions, questions, or concerns.
Message from Corey Landstrom, vice president, and dean for student life
In August, students received an email about changes to the Luther College Student Health Services. Students were advised that a fee was being implemented for visits with contracted providers beginning September 1. From our perspective, students appear to be navigating this change well. However, it is important that students understand the fee and we believe you can help with that. READ MORE...
Spotlight On:
Counseling Service
Luther College Student Life features a Counseling Service that focuses specifically on providing counsel to any student who wants it. The office is located in Larsen Hall, and is open from 8 AM to 12 PM and then 1 PM to 5 PM. Students must make appointments in person, but are never charged for the services they receive. Specifically, the service offers support for individuals and groups, crisis intervention, and off-campus referrals if necessary. The counseling services offered are completely confidential and any personal issue is appropriate to discuss, from familial issues to roommate conflicts. The counseling service has had great success, and has some great statistics.
