Packing House Grand Opening!

The much anticipated Grand Opening of the Anaheim Packing House is almost here!  As one of the remaining packing houses from the agricultural era for which Orange County is named, this former citrus packing house is a landmark in both County and City history.

The Packard Building, which once served as a showroom for Packard vehicles, is now home to the Anaheim Brewery and Umami Burger. The Packing House underwent a complete transformation, creating a unique collection of uses and spaces available to the community. With more than 20 new restaurants and merchants coming into the historic building, there is much to celebrate. The Grand Opening is set for Saturday, May 31 from noon to 10 p.m.  To learn more about the Packing House, click here.

Homeless Outreach
The City, in partnership with several nonprofit  and faith based organizations, has made great strides in addressing the needs of the local homeless population. Last month, the City presented a public workshop that highlighted the program's successes and outlined a plan for the future. To date, more than 60 homeless individuals have already been reunited with family or found permanent housing. We have also seen nearly a 14 percent reduction in our police calls related to homelessness. To learn more about outreach efforts, click here.

What does a Red Flag Warning Alert Really Mean?

A Red Flag Warning is a forecast warning issued by the National Weather Service to inform area firefighters and land management agencies that conditions are ideal for wild land fires with increased probability of a quickly spreading vegetation fire in the area within 24 hours. The National Weather Service and local fire officials assess several factors, which include: the temperature, humidity levels, and weather before determining whether a Red Flag warning should be issued.

Below are some basic tips to prevent wildland fires:

  • Never mow or trim dry grass/vegetation on a Red Flag Warning Day
  • Do not pull your vehicle over a dry grass area or brush
  • Do not dispose of smoking materials out of your vehicle when traveling

Remember, one less spark could mean one less wildfire. To learn more, click here.
