October, more than pumpkins
f&v
Most of us are aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition to participating in events, why not consider what you can do EVERY DAY to prevent this disease?

A recent headline proclaimed that "Colorful fruits and vegetables may help prevent breast cancer."  The article goes on to state "Two recent studies in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute show that fruit and vegetable intake may help lower a woman's risk of getting breast cancer.

These studies are among the first to suggest a way that women can lower their risk on their own."  This is extremely positive and empowering news!  Read article

Tim Blank
Creator of the Tower Garden

tim blank Raised in a rural farm community in the western Dakotas, inventor Tim Blank grew up "loving the land we all steward" as he puts it. Combining a passion for both agriculture and science, in 1992 he graduated from Valencia College with a degree in Horticulture and Greenhouse Management. In 1993, Tim took the first step toward his life's work when he was hired by Disney World in Florida as an advanced intern at Epcot Center's Living with the Land pavilion. In 2000, Tim was offered and accepted the position of Chief Horticulturist and Greenhouse Manager of The Land. As Greenhouse Manager, he was responsible for four hydroponic bio-domes over a two-acre area consisting of tropical, temperate, productive, and innovative greenhouses.

In 2005, Tim left Disney to launch a one-of-a kind company called Future Growing, where he still serves as President today. He is dedicated to reintroducing healthy food to the American family. Tim has handed off responsibility for marketing the residential Tower Garden to Juice Plus+, allowing Future Growing to focus on larger-scale, commercial vertical growing projects such as the Tower Garden "Eco-Farm" at Chicago O'Hare Airport.

Tim Blank developed a unique growing system that allows almost anyone, anywhere to grow their own fresh fruits and vegetables at home.

Why Everyone Should Eat More Plants

by Rich Roll, Ultra-endurance athlete

Excerpts from article: We live in the most prosperous nation on Earth, and yet overall we've never been more unhealthy. One out of every three deaths in the US is caused by heart disease, America's #1 killer. A close second is cancer, killing one out of every four in the U.S. alone. 70% of Americans are obese or overweight. And by 2030, 50% of Americans will be diabetic or pre-diabetic.

How did we get here? 94% of the calories consumed by the typical American eating the standard American diet are empty calories.

And yet the great irony is that so many chronic diseases -

in fact 90% of all Western disease-need never exist in the first place.

It's time to reverse the trend. But how?

Simple. Eat more plants. You might be surprised to learn that a plant-based diet is the only nutritional protocol known to man that has been shown to prevent-and in many cases, actually reverse, these four and many other chronic illnesses that unnecessarily plague us. Read more

Telomeres - a word you want to know!

Are you interested in living longer?

Dr. Dean Ornish
Dr. Dean Ornish

A small pilot study shows for the first time that changes in diet, exercise, stress management and social support may result in longer telomeres, the parts of chromosomes that affect aging.

It is the first controlled trial to show that any intervention might lengthen telomeres over time.

"So often people think 'Oh, I have bad genes, there's nothing I can do about it,'" Ornish said. "But these findings indicate that telomeres may lengthen to the degree that people change how they live. Research indicates that longer telomeres are associated with fewer illnesses and longer life."

We have two JP+ studies that show positive impact to your DNA and telomeres. Both studies noted fewer DNA strand breaks after taking JP+ than before, indicating the DNA was protected from damage. A 40% reduction was noted in a young population and a 66% reduction in DNA damage in the elderly.
