A Word from Rev. Ellen

"Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and there is no other; and My people will never be put to shame.  It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy,Your old men will dream dreams Your young men will see visions."  Joel 2: 27-28

America is the land of dreams.  We say it is the legacy of all Americans to have a house, a car, 1.2 children and a living wage.  What about the American Church?  What is the American Church's legacy; a full sanctuary, (like we experienced at Rick Mullinax's funeral), a budget that is in the black all the time, a large youth group, lots of babies in the nursery, exciting events or Christ from whom all these other blessings flow?
Summer offers us the time to discern Bethpage Presbyterian Church's dreams.  Are they the American Church's or the fulfillment of Jesus' command? These ARE the questions the Christian church has been asking since the first chapter of Acts (the history of the Christian Church) or since the doors of Bethpage Presbyterian Church opened in 1794.
This Summer we will be looking at Jesus' final instructions to his disciples, found in Acts 1: 8, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."  Put another way, we will be looking at the transformation process Jesus Christ promised to every church/disciple that follows His call, "You will receive power (a vital union with God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit) that directs each disciple into the world (around your hometown, your country and even the world.)
Impossible?  Don't believe it deep down?  Jesus said in John 14:12-14, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." or the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things in Christ, who strengthens me."  With these scriptures in mind the REAL question is, "Do you believe these promises?  Are you/we willing to be changed as you/we dedicate ourselves to Christ's call anew?" History bears witnesses to what God can do with 12 disciples.  We have 150 members.  Do we bear witness like that too? Together let us discern what God CAN do; a legacy of dreams far better than what we can imagine alone.  He promised!  Blessings, Rev. Ellen
Expressing Our Condolences

The congregation of Bethpage Presbyterian Church extends its deepest Christian sympathy to Glenda Kirkman, Dougie Kirkman and their families in the death of Glenda's mother and Dougie's grandmother, Frances Pope Tate.  The congregation also extends its deepest Christian sympathy to the family of James Richard (Rick) Mullinax.  We join with these families as they celebrate their loved one's life in Christ.

Barry McGee Concert at Kirkwood PC

This Sunday, June 12th at 6:00 PM, Kirkwood Presbyterian Church (900 Klondale Avenue, Kannapolis) will host award-winning Christian musician and comedian, Barry McGee.  Barry uses humor to create a great atmosphere during his programs that reaches outside the walls of the Church to minister to many who might not otherwise hear the gospel.  He has worked as a NASCAR Chaplain and with Prison Fellowship, sharing God's word through comedy with hundreds of inmates each year.  This is a free program.  A love offering will be received and light refreshments will be served.  For more info, call 704-932-4527.

CCM Mobile Food Pantry at BPC

Bethpage Presbyterian Church will sponsor the CCM Mobile Food Pantry on Thursday, June 16th, 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon in the BPC parking lot.  Cooperative Christian Ministry conducts Mobile Food Pantries on a monthly basis in neighborhoods of high need. These highly effective food distribution programs overcome the absence of transportation for many struggling families, and provide supplemental groceries at a very efficient cost to CCM. Bethpage needs to provide volunteers to help that day from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  If you are interested, please contact Chris Ferguson at 704-680-2783.

CPR Class at Bethpage PC

The Nurture Committee is sponsoring a CPR Training Class for church members --- especially session members, ushers and Sunday school teachers.  It will be held next Saturday, June 18th, 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon in the Fellowship Hall.

Next Sunday, June 19th, at the 9:55 AM worship service, Bethpage PC will receive our annual Father's Day Offering for Children's Hope Alliance.  As you know, Children's Hope Alliance is the combination of Barium Springs and Grandfather Home for Children --- two agencies joining forces to serve children and families throughout North Carolina.  They work hard to provide a safe, healing journey for hurting children and families, creating hope now and in the future.  CHA uses comprehensive services and programs that are designed to give hope to their clients by providing a safe home, healing their hurt and encouraging a healthy start.  Please make checks payable to Bethpage Presbyterian Church and write Children's Hope Alliance on the memo line.  Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this worthwhile cause.

1,000 Can Challenge to Benefit CCM's Summer Food Drive

More than one in four children in North Carolina struggle with hunger.  During the summer, the struggle for children to find a meal gets even harder, as only one of seven students who receives a free or reduced price lunch during the school year will get lunch on any given summer day.  To help combat that issue, Cooperative Christian Ministry will be holding a summer food drive.  As part of this food drive, Bethpage Presbyterian Church has elected to participate in the 1,000 Can Challenge, a project being offered to area churches to raise 1,000 cans of food for CCM through their congregations.  Canned food items we will be collecting are pork & beans, corn, peas, and green beans.  Your food offering may be brought to the church any time through July 31st.
