A Word from Rev. Ellen

Oswald Chamber's on Self-Control.   Enjoy - Rev. Ellen
"I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." 1  A Christian worker has to learn how to be God's man or woman of great worth and excellence in the midst of a multitude of meager and worthless things.  Never protest by saying, "If only I were somewhere else!"  All of God's people are ordinary people who have been made extraordinary by the purpose He has given them.  Unless we have the right purpose intellectually in our minds and lovingly in our hearts, we will very quickly be diverted from being useful to God.  We are not workers for God by choice.  Many people deliberately choose to be workers, but they have no purpose of God's almighty grace or His mighty Word in them.  Paul's whole heart, mind, and soul were consumed with the great purpose of what Jesus Christ came to do, and he never lost sight of that one thing.  We must continually confront ourselves with one central fact- ". . . Jesus Christ and Him crucified" 2
"I chose you . . . " 3.  Keep these words as a wonderful reminder in your theology.  It is not that you have gotten God, but that He has gotten you.  God is at work bending, breaking, molding, and doing exactly as He chooses.  And why is He doing it?  He is doing it for only one purpose- that He may be able to say, "This is My man, and this is My woman."  We have to be in God's hand so that He can place others on the Rock, Jesus Christ, just as He has placed us.
Enjoy this wisdom from Oswald Chamber's devotional classic, My Utmost For His Highest.  "How much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! - Matthew 7:11
Jesus is laying down the rules of conduct for those people who have His Spirit.  He urges us to keep our minds filled with the concept of God's control over everything, which means that a disciple must maintain an attitude of perfect trust and an eagerness to ask and to seek.
Fill your mind with the thought that God is there.  And once your mind is truly filled with that thought, when you experience difficulties it will be as easy as breathing for you to remember, "My heavenly Father knows all about this!" This will be no effort at all, but will be a natural thing for you when difficulties and uncertainties arise.  Before you formed this concept of divine control so powerfully in your mind, you used to go from person to person seeking help, but now you go to God about it.  Jesus is laying down the rules of self-control for those people who have His Spirit, and it works on the following principle:  God is my Father, He loves me, and I will never think of anything that He will forget, so why should I worry?
Jesus said there are times when God cannot lift the darkness from you, but you should trust Him.  At times God will appear like an unkind friend, but He is not; He will appear like an unnatural father, but He is not; He will appear like an unjust judge, but He is not.  Keep the thought that the mind of God is behind all things strong and growing.  Not even the smallest detail of life happens unless God's will is behind it.  Therefore, you can rest in perfect confidence in Him.  Prayer is not only asking, but is an attitude of the mind which produces the atmosphere in which asking is perfectly natural. "Ask, and it will be given to you . . . " (Matthew 7:7).

NEW Procedure for Placing Flowers in the Church for Worship

Would you like to place flowers in the Bethpage church sanctuary for the Sunday morning worship service?  If you would like to commemorate a special occasion in this way, please sign up on the sheet in the hallway between the Sunday school office and the sanctuary AND call Kilby's Florist at 704-933-7955 with your order and any special instructions.  Make arrangements directly with Kilby's for payment.  Please remember to contact Donna in the church office at least a week before your reserved Sunday, to let her know how you would like your gift of flowers recognized in The Beth Page.  If you leave the flowers at the church or allow them to be distributed to our local retirement communities following the worship service, you will be bringing joy to many others AND your gift is tax deductible.
