A Word from Rev. Ellen
Three weeks ago The Beth Page offered a Lenten Spiritual Assessment, last week 40 spiritual impediments to freedom in Christ were listed for your consideration. Did you choose one or two to surrender to God this Lent? It is not too late; check out those back issues and get started today. Now, say you did choose your Lenten focus, what next? PRAYER! Prayer invites us to stay in the space between desiring healing and seeing God's Spirit at work, achieving the healing.
Here's how! Grab that destructive habit(s) list you made last week. My list includes; complaining spirit, self-sufficiency, and ingratitude. Now, come to God each day in a safe and quiet place where you can allow the great physician to begin His healing process. Breathe deeply. Again. Remember as you breathe, the Lord is with you; closer than your last breath. Don't hurry - wait in God's presence. When you're ready, set that piece of paper with the destructive habit on it before God and wait. Ask the Lord for instruction about that habit. Listen to (for) the Lord to speak! This can take awhile but remember, you have 40 days. God will direct you as you wait upon him. Trust the Lord to direct your ways, to still the habit and in time, to shift your dependence or response to the habit(s).
Sound too easy? Strange? Yes, this may be an unfamiliar way of allowing God to change your life. But it is a process that has been practiced by Christians for thousands of years. After all, don't we say we want God to work in our lives? Let Romans 12:1 lead you this Lent by presenting yourself - holy and acceptable to him. This Lent, I pray it will become your act of spiritual worship!
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

NEW Procedure for Placing Flowers in the Church for Worship
Would you like to place flowers in the Bethpage church sanctuary for the Sunday morning worship service? If you would like to commemorate a special occasion in this way, please sign up on the sheet in the hallway between the Sunday school office and the sanctuary AND call Kilby's Florist at 704-933-7955 with your order and any special instructions. Make arrangements directly with Kilby's for payment. Please remember to contact Donna in the church office at least a week before your reserved Sunday, to let her know how you would like your gift of flowers recognized in The Beth Page. If you leave the flowers at the church or allow them to be distributed to our local retirement communities following the worship service, you will be bringing joy to many others AND your gift is tax deductible.

A Note from the Nurture Committee
With the cold and flu season upon us, the Nurture Committee has prepared a care basket with cough drops (regular and sugar free), tissues and water. The basket has been placed on the table just as you enter the church from the front door. Please feel free to take advantage of it.
