A Word from Rev. Ellen

How was your score on the Lenten Prep test in last week's Bethpage?  Still trying to decide what to do during Lent to prepare your heart for Christ's resurrection?  This week's Lenten tip is not so much about what TO do as it is about what to LET go!  This is not your grandmother's Lenten list!  This list contains habits that draw us AWAY from God's grace and our union in Christ.  Consider giving one or two of these distructive habits to God this Lent:

Fear of failure
Impatience
Comparison
Lack of counsel
Apathy
A spirit of poverty
Pursuing happiness
Giving up
Busyness
Quick fixes
Your comfort zone
Retirement (we need you)
Blame
Going through the motions
Impurity
Hatred
Bitterness
Mediocrity
Loneliness
Worry
Feeling unworthy
People pleasing
Guilt
Entitlement
Negativity
Complaining spirit
Distractions
Destructive speech
Disunity
Idolizing
Selfishness in life
Self-sufficiency
Overcommitment
Selfish ambition
Ingratitude
Envy
Small view of God
Pride
Resistance to change
Sorrow/grief

I've made my list! Won't you?  Blessings, Rev. Ellen

NEW Procedure for Placing Flowers in the Church for Worship

Would you like to place flowers in the Bethpage church sanctuary for the Sunday morning worship service?  If you would like to commemorate a special occasion in this way, please sign up on the sheet in the hallway between the Sunday school office and the sanctuary AND call Kilby's Florist at 704-933-7955 with your order and any special instructions.  Make arrangements directly with Kilby's for payment.  Please remember to contact Donna in the church office at least a week before your reserved Sunday, to let her know how you would like your gift of flowers recognized in The Beth Page.  If you leave the flowers at the church or allow them to be distributed to our local retirement communities following the worship service, you will be bringing joy to many others AND your gift is tax deductible.
A Note from the Nurture Committee

With the cold and flu season upon us, the Nurture Committee has prepared a care basket with cough drops (regular and sugar free), tissues and water.  The basket has been placed on the table just as you enter the church from the front door.  Please feel free to take advantage of it.
