A Word from Rev. Ellen
Dear Disciples of Jesus Christ,
As we head into Lent I would like you to take a moment to consider your faith practices and how vital they are in your life. Self-reflection is a vital aspect to Lent. "Are my prayer and Bible Study practices helping me to grow in my faith?" Lent starts on February 10th this year. (I know, it is really early this year!) Lent is a time when we can look at our life of faith with God and ask ourselves, "Do I glorify God in all I do? Do I enjoy God the way God would like?" and then do something about it!"
To that end I would like to set up a "Lent Test"; a couple of questions that will enable you to put this year's Lenten Season to good use as a time of real spiritual growth. (Answer the following questions with a number 1 through 5, with 1 being the least likely and 5 being the most likely.)
Do I have a time each day that I set aside to pray and read scripture?
Do I feel like my prayer life is a mirror of Jesus' example in prayer?
Do I find my time with God something I look forward to each day?
Could I use some help knowing how to pray?
Do I pray for people throughout the day?
Do I go to God when I am unclear about what I should do?
Do I set aside time to read my Bible each day?
Does reading the Bible fill me with peace?
Does reading the bible just confuse me?

39-40: I am headed in the right direction. My faith could be tweeked. What changes would help?
30-38: I am busy. I don't make time for prayer and scripture like I want to. I would like to try though.
21-29: I'm too busy to make time in my day. That is what Sunday is for. I wouldn't know where to start!
Would I like my faith life to be stronger? How?
During this year's Lenten season, I will be offering some ideas on how to strengthen, get serious about or start a season of spiritual growth. I hope you will join me in taking advantage of this year's Lenten season to strengthen your relationship with God! I know it will enrich this year's Holy Week and Easter!
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

NEW Procedure for Placing Flowers in the Church for Worship
Would you like to place flowers in the Bethpage church sanctuary for the Sunday morning worship service? If you would like to commemorate a special occasion in this way, please sign up on the sheet in the hallway between the Sunday school office and the sanctuary AND call Kilby's Florist at 704-933-7955 with your order and any special instructions. Make arrangements directly with Kilby's for payment. Please remember to contact Donna in the church office at least a week before your reserved Sunday, to let her know how you would like your gift of flowers recognized in The Beth Page. If you leave the flowers at the church or allow them to be distributed to our local retirement communities following the worship service, you will be bringing joy to many others AND your gift is tax deductible.

A Note from the Nurture Committee
With the cold and flu season upon us, the Nurture Committee has prepared a care basket with cough drops (regular and sugar free), tissues and water. The basket has been placed on the table just as you enter the church from the front door. Please feel free to take advantage of it.
