A Word from Rev. Ellen
What is the Christian hope? Is it that we have eternal life because of what Jesus Christ has done for us? Yes, but it is more than that. It is also that God's purpose for his creation is not done until all of his creation, humanity - the first fruits of salvation - and the whole earth have been restored - brought back to union with him. Romans 8:19-25 reminds us, "For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience."
Advent (which literally means: the arrival or visit of the king) celebrates Christ's first coming in human flesh. Advent also celebrates the first chapters of the final ending to God's story with Christ expected second coming; the fulfillment of God's faithful plan of salvation for ALL of his creation. This is the final hope we have been waiting for. God is not done with his world yet! The evil that has filled our eyes in recent days, makes our hearts groan; tempts us to doubt that God will not have the last word, that God WILL NOT prevail. BUT IT IS IN GOD, IN HIS SURE HOPE, THAT ALL OF CREATION WILL BE SAVED. So, wait in hope, you who believe, wait in patience and with the assurance that the King will come again - just as he promised - putting down sin and death once and for all. Welcome, Advent. Welcome, Christ our King! HOPE IN THE LORD!
Blessings, Rev. Ellen
