A Word from Rev. Ellen
This week's BELIEVE study is on the Church. I wanted to talk about keeping a focused eye on Christ and his call for the church. At the last session meeting our devotion was about the importance of focusing on Christ in our life and ministry. Every year I have an eye exam. Every year before that exam the Dr's office calls to remind me to have someone drive me to the exam, because the drops that will dilate my eyes will make focusing very difficult, dangerous or even impossible; the same is true in our life of faith.
When we lose focus on Jesus Christ, we are unable to see clearly and the blessings of a purposeful life and ministry can pass us by. This is not only a problem; it is dangerous! Satan is always at work trying to divide our union with Christ. Did you know that the Hebrew name for Satan in Genesis chapter two means splitter? He loves to split our focus because that is when he is in control. Have you seen it your life or in the church? Things are going along just great and all the sudden there is trouble! People are hurt and sweet opportunities to share the gospel are missed. But perhaps the greatest loss is the joy, delight and prospect for the future Christ wants to share with us all, as his image bearers.
The next time you feel attacked by frustrations, boredom drifts into your life (even worship) and everything looks bleak, ask yourself, "is my focus off?" The Church is Christ's bride in the world. Let's not lose focus or fall victim to dismay. In our actions and in our walk, individually or more importantly together as God's children in Kannapolis, let us always be focused on Christ's call for our lives. That they may see Jesus.
Blessings, Rev. Ellen
P.S. This month your Shepherd will be praying for you daily, in particular, that your focus on Christ may be sure and clear.

BPC-K to Participate in Sweet Street 2015
BPC Senior Highs and children will be participating in Sweet Street 2015 on October 31st from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. This is an opportunity to have Trunk or Treat for local children and have resources available from Bethpage Church and Latin Mission Christ Savior to make our church activities available to the community. Sweet Street will be held in downtown Kannapolis on West Avenue. All are welcome to attend and participate! Set up will begin at 5:00 PM. We can simply park our car and stand or sit out in front passing out candy or use drama and be as elaborate or creative as we want to. This includes, but is not limited to backdrops, props, a table with literature about Bethpage, banners, etc. We will have the opportunity to invite guests (if they don't already have a church) to visit Bethpage.
We also need donations of candy and/or money to buy candy for this local mission/Senior High project.
Please bring donations this Sunday, October 25th.
Thanks for your support!

A Stewardship Moment
"If the life of a river depended only on the rain that falls within the confines of its own banks, it would soon be dry. If the life of an individual depended solely on his own resources, he would soon fall short. Be grateful for your tributaries."
