Can you pick a favorite?

What is your favorite verse from the Scriptures?  "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."  Maybe, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son."  Then there is, " I look to the hills, for whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth."  For encouragement I love, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."  Or Psalm 139, "Where can I flee from his presence?  If I ascend to heaven you are there!  If I make my bed in hell, you are there!"  How about the shortest verse in the Bible, one that spells out the reality that 'God in the flesh' shares our pain, "Jesus wept."
Maybe your favorite scripture is instructional, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might."  Are you touched most by Jesus' addition, "and your neighbor as yourself."?  What blessed assurance we feel from Isaiah 43, "I've called you by name and you are mine, when you pass through the waters I will be with you; through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you."  Who is not inspired by another text in Isaiah, "They who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles . . . they shall walk and not be faint."
To this day I remember the first scripture I looked up as a child, " I was glad when they said unto me, 'let us go into the house of the Lord."  What was your first scripture?  What Christmas would be complete without a scripture that begins, "In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered."  Likewise, what Easter is complete without Mary's cry of joyful recognition, "Rabboni!"
Did you find one of your favorite scriptures in this list?  Can you imagine what your life would be like without these precious texts?  We are told that scripture is God breathed.  Won't you take some time today, tomorrow and every day to breath in the wonder, encouragement, truth and life of God's Word, the Bible?  Blessings, Rev. Ellen
