A Word from Rev. Ellen
This morning I was reading a blog post by Stephanie Williams, a pastor at Mill City Church in Minneapolis. She was writing to her parishioners about making time for mission (I add spiritual growth) in our overly busy lives. She writes, "I had realized that I wanted my life to be oriented toward what God was doing all around me. I wanted to step into the Kingdom of God in my neighborhood and work place. I was asking, "God what are you doing? How should I respond?" But there was a problem. I realized two things: First, I wasn't stopping long enough to listen to what God was saying. Second, even if I were to hear God's voice audibly inviting me to participate with what God is doing . . . I wouldn't have time to respond."
I know, I know, you say Ellen, I have heard these things before. I am too busy to add anything into my life. First, thanks for reading The Beth Page. Second, just take a minute to look over the next few suggestions. You may find in one of them, the way to do what I know you want to do: be closer to your Lord and the business of his Kingdom.
  1. Take your ordinary activities and insert intentionally:  reorient yourself towards seeing what God is doing around you.  Set your phone to vibrate --- reminding you to ask God what he is doing in your work place or use your time in the car to dwell on one or two verses in God's word.
  2. Quit something:  Write out everything you do in a given month --- pray over it and ask God if there is one or two things that should go as you head into this next season.
  3. Put mission, study or prayer in your calendar:  Schedule that meal with a church friend, try a new mission opportunity in the church (Suds of Love starts next week), make time for the new BELIEVE series.  (This will really kick start your faith growth.)
As the season changes - let's step into this fall with intentionality when it comes to our time. I think we will all be surprised by how our barriers to Christ's mission and spiritual growth can be overcome!
Blessings, Rev. Ellen
