A Word from Rev. Ellen
This summer, members of the Communications Committee and I have been working on a new web site for Bethpage Presbyterian Church. During the process I came across a poem called Bethpage Tribute, written by Alice Moody. The last few lines caught my eye,
"Our hearts are longing for this end:
To serve the Lord our God.
This is the common thread that binds.
And though this plot of land has seen
the changes the years can bring,
the vision of the church is steadfast, strong."
What are these commons threads of ministry together? Is Alice Moody right; "To serve the Lord our God." What is so amazing is that, today we will offer our service in very similar, as well as, different ways from our past. Our commonalities are still; Jesus Christ (the same yesterday, today and tomorrow) the essential tenants of our faith, the way we practice our faith, the fruit of that faith?
What do those similarities really mean to us today? This is the purpose of our new study at Bethpage (beginning 9/16/2015) called BELIEVE. We will explore together the beliefs shared by ALL Christians, how we can live into those beliefs and how those practices make us more like Jesus Christ; essentially our thinking, acting and being. I hope you will join us for 30 weeks of deepening faith, that we might continue to live out Alice Moody's beautiful sentiment,
"Our hearts are longing for this end:
To serve the Lord our God.
This is the common thread that binds . . .
The vision of the church is steadfast, strong."
Blessings, Rev. Ellen
