So what do you do after spending a year studying the Bible from the Alpha, the beginning, to the Omega, the end? Most likely, you start talking about how the Bible affects your life! That is where belief comes in, or more specifically Believe comes in. Believe is the next study from the makers of The Story.
This year during elder training we discussed the tenets of the Christian faith. The discussion was rich and honest; revealing that many of us do not know what the essential beliefs are of the Christian Church, let alone its Presbyterian branch. There was a hunger to know what it is we say we believe. Our new elders are not alone!! The makers of The Story heard this over and over again and decided to develop the next step of discipleship by looking at 10 beliefs of all Christians - across the board.
Then they tackled the question of how we integrate our beliefs into our daily life or acting as Jesus on a daily basis. They came up with 10 practices held by active disciples of Jesus Christ; worship, prayer, Bible study, community, spiritual gifts, etc. What they found is that people who do not connect the Bible, their beliefs and their actions, don't grow into mature Christians. They found that deep down, all Christians want to become deeply mature followers of Jesus Christ but they often don't know how to go about it. Adopting these ten practices throughout our faith life is the way to achieve our hearts desires.
Finally, they discerned that people who know their Bible, what they believe, live into Christian practices of faith often take on the attributes of Jesus Christ. In their research they discerned 10 fruits of a growing discipleship like; love, joy, peace, hope, humility and patience to name a few. People who are growing in their faith will exhibit these qualities.
After twenty-five years of prayer, discernment and development, Believe was created to combine these three things: belief, actions, and Christian character into a 30-week study BPC-K will be embarking on starting September 20th. Please, be on the lookout for a great deal more information on this. For now, I ask you to take a few moments to pray for the organizers, teachers and congregational members of BPC-K as we prepare to bring this LIFE CHANGING Christian Education Program to our church this fall.
Blessings, Rev. Ellen

BLOOD DRIVE at BPC-K, August 17th
|
Community Blood Center of the Carolinas and Bethpage Presbyterian Church are having a community blood drive on Monday, August 17th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the BPC Fellowship Hall. CBCC is an independent, locally-managed, non-profit community blood center. They are the primary blood supplier to the region's patients and hospitals. They're members of America's Blood Centers, a group of 72 independent blood centers that supplies 50 percent of the country's blood. They subscribe to a community-based blood banking philosophy. That means community donors know that the blood they give stays in our community first -- helping family members, friends and neighbors. Excess supply is shared with other communities when needed.

Thank You Note from Children's Hope Alliance
|
Dear Bethpage Presbyterian Church,
Many of the children in our care have grown up in dark, gloomy situations - starved for love, care and attention. Coming to Children's Hope Alliance, many now experience memorable, happy events for the first time. Our youth are amazed and overjoyed to know there are people who think of them, who care for them, without even knowing them. We received your generous $169.00 Father's Day Offering at the Grandfather Home Campus. We are thankful that you are helping us show the children and youth at Children's Hope Alliance the light of love, happiness, hope and promise. Thank you for your kindness.
Peace, John Koppelmeyer, President/CEO
